Our Academy is great. (N. Richland Hills, Tx.)

    I always get good service.

    Decent ammo prices so far.

Gun shop in Shelby closed a couple of months ago. Sneaked into wally world, girl behind the counter asked if she could get me anything. Asked for 5.56, she'd never heard of such. Did get some 12 gauge in case lots they almost gave away. Won't be buying any 12 for a long while now. Still no 5.56. They didn't have any .223 either, she didn't know what that was either. Asked if she knew anything at all about firearms. She claims she did but I'm pretty doubtful.

At least you got someone to actually talk to! That is a big step up from most Wally World's!

sorry to hear that... The Academy here is nice and I really like their new line of Sarsilmaz 9mm, (CZ-75 clones) made special for Academy, even says so on the side. (Academy, Katy Texas) [8D]

...forgot to ad... that any warranty work that needs doin is covered by another local company... Briley (you may remember them as the guys that lost those 2 $25k rifles a while back). I think that is pretty cool specially since the pistols are made in Turkyie.

...Also, I do agree that it sucks that you have to ask for the pistol ammo from behind the counter. since the real dangerous stuff (the high power rifle ammo) is on the normal store shelves.

That is a store I never heard of, so I guess the service I get from them is worst of all.

Hey, don't give up on Academy because of that experience. Do as another suggested and complain to the manager. I've had a great deal of satisfaction doing that and knowing that they would do something about it. They usually don't mind bouncing those "frat-boy" types 'cause another one will apply before the first one leaves the building.

Academy is a solid, respectable retailer that still offers sportsmen, and particularly shooters/hunters, products we want/need at reasonable prices.

Besides, we've got two in town (BR) and likely more on the way considering how the city is growing.

The only reason I went was because Wife #1 (and only) wanted to get the kids a new inner tube to pull behind the bote. Luckily they were on sale 50% off. I also needed some 2 stroke earl. Just happened to notice they had Remington HV .22 for $15/brick. Knowing how ammo prices are skyrocketing, I wanted some.
They are NOT my first/go to place for anything gun related. I spend my $$ locally as much as possible.

Ramtin, have you checked out LA Gun and Reloading?

Yep. They've sold two guns for me and have handled two tranfers on items purchased or traded over the web. Good people there. They've just about convinced me to get into reloading--at least on a small scale to start. Thanks for the tip on them--I'm telling everyone nowadays.

BTW, I'm with you on the "local" dealers deal. Except for that BIG one across the street from LA Gun...you know the one. When I find them selling at retail PLUS, I take my money elsewhere.
