I don't know if this was posted before, but this is info from an article posted in the Gun Rights Watch section of Guns Mag May edition.
Operation Gun Stop: a program implemented by the NYPD where citizens can turn in other citizens for possessing a gun. According to Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, they're offering $1,000 to each person who contacts us with information that leads to an arrest and a conviction.
And how is this contact made? Anonymously by dialing the toll-free number, 866-GUN STOP. Rewards are paid within 72 hours of the arrest of one or more suspects.
Gee isn't this similar to the program that Hitler implememted after his big gun grab??
This is the respect that you get in New York City for your second amendment rights under Mayor Bloomberg and others that manage that city. Watch this program spread across the nation to other large cities, Chicago will be next.

If I could I'd pay $1000 to create another gun owner, by buying him a gun and teaching him how to use it. Rather have more around me then less. Though I could use $1000, you won't see me turning anyone in unless they are pointing a gun at me and demanding my money, but in that case there might not be anyone left alive to turn in.[;)] 0 -

99% of the dead beats in NYC would. NYC is lost and never coming back. The term gun, is automatically associated with crime. No other thought processes exist there.
What's funny is, they keep implementing more and more taxes and tolls there too.
Just heard on the radio today that the mayor is proposing a new EIGHT DOLLAR TOLL, for simply using a certain street to get in to Manhattan. Apparently, there are many other tolls before you get to that point anyway. If you had to take that way to work, that's 160.00 in tolls per month, just at that location.
If you're makin min. wage, that cuts a full work day down to less than 7 hours pay.
It does seem like Hitler is taking over NYC.0 -

Just another way for the cops to rough up it's citizens in NYC. Don't like your neighbor? Just call the number and tell the cops you seen them with a gun. Cops will be there to bust down the door, rough up the nieghbor, and destroy their property looking for a gun that doesn't exist, and hauls neighbor off to jail, until they find that non-exsistant handgun. 0 -

When the gun bans take effect, this is one measure the Elites will use to ferret out hold-outs.

A.P.S. BULLETIN # 001 JANUARY 12, 2001
SUBJECT: AUXILIARY POLICE PARTICIPATION "OPERATION GUN STOP"
1. As part of our Department's Policing NYC:2001 strategy, "Operation Gun Stop" has been created whereby members of the public will be encouraged to participate in our effort to combat illegal sale and/or possession of handguns. Under this program, private citizens will be able to anonymously provide this Department with information regarding individuals or locations involved with illegal handguns. Individuals who provide information that leads to an arrest for such sale/possession will be eligible for a cash reward of $500. Auxiliary police officers while performing patrol and community activities are in a key position to convey this invaluable information to private citizens in their community and accordingly have been requested to assist in this endeavor.
2. Auxiliary police officers have been requested by both the Chief of the Department and Chief of Patrol to participate in disseminating information to the general public regarding "Operation Gun Stop". To begin, auxiliary police coordinators are to immediately confer with their Commanding Officer and or Executive Officer for instruction relative to their individual command's strategy for utilization of auxiliary police officers in distribution and dissemination of information to the public. In order to promote the GUN STOP initiative, auxiliary police coordinators shall then be responsible to ensure that their auxiliary police personnel are informed of and distribute informational material (flyers, posters, and cards). Refer to instructions as per CHIEF OF DEPARTMENT MEMO #1, Subject: Operation Gun Stop, cs 01-12-01.
3. All commands will receive "Operation Gun Stop" informational materials which include 3 1/2" x 4 1/2 "cards, 8 1/2 x 11" flyers, and 11" x 17" posters. All auxiliary police coordinators shall acquire these materials from their command and or the borough auxiliary police coordinator for distribution by auxiliary police personnel. Members of the Auxiliary Police Program should take advantage of any contact(s) with the public, to make citizens aware of "Operation Gun Stop". Auxiliary police officers may distribute these materials to the public while on patrol and or at special events and details, recruitment drives, street fairs, and community meetings, etc.
4. All auxiliary police coordinators and auxiliary police commanding officers shall make "Operation Gun Stop" strategy their priority and ensure that all auxiliary police assigned are familiar with it's goals and are actively participating.

Hitler did not need to use informants, he had at his disposal all of the firearms registrations documents left behind by the wonderful Weimar Republic. Germany's free and democratic governemnt decided that it would be a fine idea to register all of the firearms in private hands so when the Nazi's arrived in 1933 it was all there just waiting for them. While most Germans were allowed to retain all of their firearms the Jews, who were stripped of citizenship, were not. There is a wonderful line in the movie Fail Safe(it may also appear in the book) which goes something like "How far would the Holocaust have advanced if every Nazi was meet at the door by a Jew with a gun in his hand"? 0 -

While I surely don't endorse this type of "snitch" action, I'm pretty sure that it's aimed at getting average everyday people to become "stool pigeons" and turn in the gang bangers and other social deviants who may have brandished or now carry an illegal gun, i.e. stole, street-bought, used in a crime, etc.
Unfortuantely, most sane and life-loving folks will not forfeit the lives and/or well-being of themselves or their loved ones for $1,000. And so, it's more political window-trimming, aimed at giving folks a warmer and fuzzier feeling while it accomplishes nothing - other than to possibly increase the murder rate among law-abiding civilians who "snitched".0 -
As mentioned a couple of times before, (almost) all guns in New York City are illegal. So, legal or illegal guns is sort of a distinction without a difference. 0 -

A law is a law. I think this one's unjust, for sure and I hate that nobody can stop these people who have been elected to their positions, and have used them to do such a disservice to the citizens they serve. They're mislead, but passionate in their conviction that it's the solution to their fear of violent crime. They believe they are doing the right thing. In all but one small stipulation of their law. On that one point, they all know that they have stepped over the line.
In this country, the accused has the right to face his accuser. The gathering of information from anonymous informers as the sole basis for search and seizure is absolutely wrong. You cannot be eligible to legislate and disregard this principal. In everyone of their hearts, they must know this.0 -

Bloomberg needs to GO--and I don't mean to Washington, D.C. He's one of the gun owner's greatest foes--along with his fellow billionaire, George Soros. Unless some drastic measures are taken SOON, I fear these two will use their incredible wealth to completely disarm America. With their money, they could personally pay the bounty on every law-abiding gun owner in the land...and I'm afraid they're not above doing just that.[V][:(!] 0
