it's not a Harley it's a Big Ruckus
Yeah, I know it's not a Harley, but this thing will be used just to get me around town.
The cost is around $5000, I may use it at my hunting camp, and to get to work (under 5 miles). With gas being what it is, it just makes sense.
I have a few buddies who have them and they are truely a blast to ride. This would be my first bike, (I'm over 50), Mrs. likemhot more or less approves, and jr. is ready to buy one yesterday.
I have been a fireman in a big city for over 20 years, so I know and have seen my share of the scoot vs. 4 or more wheels accident routine.

5k can get you a pretty sweet used motorcycle and for going through a rough area you would need a dirtbike or a quad.

I would recommend a street legal enduro dirt bike such as the suzuki DR 650. You can ride it in town when the weather is nice and they get about 50 mpg. 0 -

It has the approval of Al Gore. It converts to a generator during power outages, and can be used to churn a bulk tank of milk at a dairy farm. It can be used to smoke out mosquitoes, and most all other pesky pests, and it won't scare the chickens, or anything else for that matter.[;)]

Man, I just had to jump in here. Hate to break it to ya, but with that thing at over 50 you STILL ain't owned a motorcycle. If you think those are fun, wait till you get the hang of a street bike or enduro. Take half that 5K and look for a good condition used 650 Yamaha twin or 750 Virago from the mid 70's to early 80's. Or add a couple grand and get a new in the box Sportster. At least it will get you around town. If you ride any more than that 5 miles a day to work you'll get tired of that scooter so fast you won't believe it. Like others have said, be careful. Us over 50's, we don't heal so quick any more. 0 -
I realize it's still not a real bike and I always wanted a Harley, And I love the thought of real speed and performance, and yes I do know that us over 50's don't heal so well. Keep up the pro's and con's I can use all the help I can get. 0 -

You will get tired of riding that little scooter really quick. I used to ride one to get around at the dragstrip, I was ready to get off by the end of the weekend. A real motorcycle is different, you will not want to get off after just a few days and when you do get off you'll be dreaming of were your going to ride next.

Cool bike, however it does seem a bit pricey, I guess that's cause of the Auto-Transmission. 0 -
I think you should buy it. A lot less to go wrong than a full size. Better gas mileage. Easier to get up if you drop it. Easier to handle in traffic and confined spaces. (Try pushing an Electra Glide Classic back up and away from a curb with your wife on the back. And I'm a big old boy.) We'll probably all be on one when gas gets to $5/gal. 0 -

I love my scooter. Correction, loved it. When it finally gets repaired or replaced, I can't wait to zip around town in it. You can't beat filling up and driving for weeks on $4. 0
