There MIGHT be a couple hundred climatologists on the planet who don't buy the idea that climate change is real and most likely human-caused.

You, too, can become unconfused. Just do exactly what you're told.

The only climbotologists that know what they're doing are these guys.
Al Gore should take a lesson.

huh? You're going to have to explain that one if you want me to get it.

Surely Sheryl Crow is now the go-to authority on climatology. Surely Al Gore has no agenda other than benevolent concern for humanity.

    Still confused?

    OK, it's a play on words...a joke.

One of my favorite targets for ridicule and mockery are the leftist, socialist elitists cramming their agenda down the throat of American gullibility. I take joy in making fun of them. Hope that's cleared up.

To put it another way, I think Al Gore is a Idiot, albeit an dangerous Idiot.

Did I say there was no global warming? People come to twisted conclusions whenever they don't read (or listen) carefully. I was referring to "HUMAN-CAUSED" global warming...reread my original post. Besides, in this decade the issue of the moment is global warming when just a decade or so ago it was global COOLING. Even then, the bona fide experts pointed to the cyclical nature of climate change. Humans, assuming that algore really is one, think WAY TOO highly of themselves when they think they can change the course of nature on a global/galactical scale. [V]

Pretending there isn't a problem is so much easier than acknowledging it and taking steps to control it.

Do you realize how petty you sound?

Last summer, a sea route to the North Pole opened up. This has NEVER happened in recorded human history.

Appearenlty, you'd rather make "witty" one-liners instead of discussing the problem.

Remind me never to shake your hand.

There are conflicting theories regarding what was once 'global warming' and has now morphed into 'global climate change'. The facts are that yes, the climates are changing, yes the overall temperature is increasing, yes we are emitting CO2 at a rate that has never before been measured (like SO many other things that have never before been measured).

My problem, with the whole thing is that there are nearly as many plausable explanations for this phenomenon, as there are scientists. Volcanic activity, sun spots, deforestation, carbon 'footprint'. I am asked to believe that it's all our fault by the same nutty professors who, JUST 30 years ago, told me to invest in Gortex and ice cutting equipment so that I would be able to survive the upcoming ice age! They look at a geologic blink of an eye and tell me that I am screwing up the entire planet.

The FACT is that the warmest period in recorded history took place approx. 10,000 years ago, BEFORE man had any significant output of CO2. Unless you count breathing, fires to keep warm and decomposing cow pies. This was termed the Holocene Maxim http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocene_Climatic_Optimum

So these knuckleheads parade pictures of dried lake beds in Africa surrounded by animal carcasses, melting glaciers with little polar bear cubs, video of tornado's, hurricanes, floods, etc. and tell me that it's all our doing and only THEY have the answer. Or 'Can we afford to take the chance that we're wrong about it..... THIS time?' Please.

I do not dismiss the effect that mankind has had on the environment. I just believe that there are FAR more pressing 'eco' issues, such as clean energy, bio-fuels, waste disposal, pestecide & herbicide use, hormones in our foods, genetic engineering of our foods, etc. These and others concern me MUCH more than the impact that my weed eater or my BBQ is having on climate change.

Frankly, I just ain't buying what they're selling.

I have known you were confused since your very first post. Admitting you have a problem is the first step however, and you have the rest of your life to look forward to. I prescribe: 1. You must spend 1 month inside the Washington, D.C. beltway and then, 2. You must spend 6 weeks in Hollywood. At that point your confusion will be gone and you too, will know everything.

Alternativly, you could spend two days under a truck load of cow dung and acheive the same state of satori (sudden enlightenment and a state of consciousness attained by intuitive illumination representing the spiritual goal of Zen Buddhism).

When I can be told, with any degree of certainty above 50%, that I can have a barbeque this weekend without rain, I'll buy into "global climate change"

Is it changing?-sure I live in New England. It changes every day-sometimes twice. It is my fault? H3ll no.Don't feel guilty tho', it's not your fault either.

All four hundred years of it.
That's a huge sample out of the billions of years or maybe I missed all that recorded history of the North and South poles.

You see one problem, I see another. You think the world is melting. I think a few wacko, leftist, elitist, liberal acamedicians have created the latest crisis De Jour to fool people like you into listening to their quasi-religious doomsday spiel in order for them to increase their power base. I think Al Gore is a very dangerous man. I think many people worried about the ice should worry about a real problem, not how much toilet paper they use. I think anyone, especially rich entertainers or politicians, suggesting we can save the whales/seals/Earth/rainforest/snail darter/etc. is a wacko, leftist, elitist, liberal, who, by following their mostly hypocritical lead, is a laughable baffoon.

    There...some discusion.

I still think the kids on the monkey bars are smarter that Al Gore and his "Only we can save the Earth" crowd.

If you took 5 minutes to look at some of the research instead of parroting back everything that Rush Limbaugh spoon feeds you perhaps you wouldn't sound like such a fool....

Yes, accurate temp. measurements have only been around for a few hundred years. Fortunatly, there are these things called "ice core samples". By drilling through glaciers in polar regions we have climate records going back several hundred thousand years. I think the best one so far goes back about 750,000 years.

My research emphasis is Geography in general. Climate change is one aspect of that.

Global warming is real. The jury remains out as to whether humans are causing it or merely amplifying its effects. All your blustering to the contrary changes nothing.

Rack Ops: The jury is definitely NOT "out"--maybe out of their minds--regarding human culpability in the melt-down. algore, Sheryl Crow and dozens of other "celebrity" hypocrites have already decided that it is the common, mostly-white, mostly-Republican, mostly-Christian middle-class devils that are to blame for the one-half to two-thirds of a degree climb in the mercury over the past 100 years. Certainly THEY are not at fault--jetting about and living in mega-hovels, wiping their arses with legal tender while they insist you use only one square of t.p. per stool stop. You're apparently not able to fully comprehend the crap you swallow. But keep on preaching your iggospel (think--ignoble) of gloom and doom by way of planetary swelter. Truth be told, I'd bet the planet doesn't have time to rise more than another 1/1000th of a degree before the whole things goes up like a powder keg. Read something you CAN believe...the last book of the Bible...with regard to the fate of this planet. And don't bother investing in asbestos undies. "Carbon credits" either. They won't help.

If there is no such thing as global warming, I'm sure that scholarly research supporting your position is available. Please post links to some....

No webpages please, peer-reviewed journal articles only. If you need an explanation as to what a "peer-reviewed journal article" is, I'll be happy to provide one.

If you are unable to find any research supporting your position, I'd like to ask what personal credentials you have that allow you to make such a bold and unsubstantiated statement.

The facts are that climate changes, whether we're here or not. Dozens of factors contribute to it and mankind is a VERY insignificant part of it. But wait.....the climate of Mars happens to be changing as well, almost in direct proportion to what is happening here. Algore can stick it. The whole thing is nothing more than a bunch of otherwise unemployed scientists fearmongering the populus into a frienzy in an effort to grab huge $$$$. The idiots, like Algore are their political mouth-pieces. If it isn't global climate change, what ever the h3ll that is, it will be something else. And I don't happen to listen to rush whats-his-name or anyone else. I read and decide for myself. Try these.

Even National Geographic states that there are likely non-manmade causes: quote: Over the last million years the Earth has fluctuated between colder and warmer periods. The shifts have occurred in roughly 100,000-year intervals thought to be regulated by sunlight. Earth's sunlight quota depends upon its orbit and celestial orientation.

But changes have also occurred more rapidly in the past-and scientists hope that these changes can tell us more about the current state of climate change. During the last ice age, approximately 70,000 to 11,500 years ago, ice covered much of North America and Europe-yet sudden, sometimes drastic, climate changes occurred during the period. Greenland ice cores indicate one spike in which the area's surface temperature increased by 15 degrees Fahrenheit (9 degrees Celsius) in just 10 years.
That was 11,500 years ago. I doubt it was humans.

Rack Ops: Perhaps you are not "sighing" at me. But just in case you are, you absolutely MUST be an educated FOOL. Can you NOT READ what I have posted? I have never ONCE insinuated or "boldly stated" that there is no such thing as GLOBAL WARMING.

YES, YES, YES--READ IT CLEARLY--THERE IS A VERY REAL PHENOMENON popularly called "GLOBAL WARMING!" Satisfied? And a few years back the issue du jour was GLOBAL COOLING, but either algore was asleep during that crisis or he hadn't yet figured how to fashion a religion of or make a buck off that one. And his religion--and maybe yours--is HUMAN-CAUSED or HUMAN-exacerbated global warming. THAT is what I categorically refute...and so, too, do many experts and scientists who are not wussified by the political correctness virus. There is something out there in sky called the SUN which is measurably changing--flaring, super-heating, whatever you wish to call it--all the time--and believe it or not, those changes have impact here on earth...far MORE impact, for sure, than how many squares of t.p. one uses to clean themselves after pooing.

Now, back to YOUR problem. I don't need you or any other pseudo-educated twit to school me on the meaning of academic terms. And if you really need me to own your beloved position--whatever it may turn out to be when you figure it out yourself--just shoot me a tee-shirt with "GLOBAL WARMING IS REAL" printed on the front and I'll wear it for just you. Of course, I reserve the right to have printed on the back: "but I didn't do it."

I'm reminded of a quote: "No single raindrop believes it is to blame for the flood"

Anyways, I'm glad you acknowledge that there is global warming trend. Any inferences on my part that you do not agree with this are my fault. Happy now?

I'll chalk that up to debating several other posters at once.

The assertion that humans have no effect on climate is silly. Was there much acid rain prior to the industrial revolution? How about smog?

Global C02 levels HAVE risen in the last few centuries. CO2 is a greenhouse gas. Humans have affected CO2 levels by a) producing CO2 b) Wiping out the forests which scrub it from the air.

In any case, I'd still like to see the work of these unnamed "experts" you cite repeatedly
