I bought the big scooter. (Picture)
Ok, I finally pulled the trigger and bought my big scooter. It's a Piaggio BV250. I rode the 500cc X9 as well, but the 250 fit my needs better than the X9; easier handling and lighter weight. It'll go 65 easily enough, although it's not hefty enough for the interstates. This is a stock photo, I'll take real ones and post'em later.

I took some pictures at my Aunt's house. I can't download them though, since she doesn't have the cable or a computer with the net. Man, riding on a gravel road with three inches of sand will raise the pucker factor. I kept it up, but I didn't go above 30mph. 0 -

ECC: The X9, 650 Bergmans and Silverwings look just like the big touring bikes. They seem about as heavy too. Mine will get about 70mpg in town. It's a fun ride. The tires are 16" in back, 15" up front. It makes for a stable ride. And, with the CVT tanny I can focus on riding and not worry about shifting. 0 -

Wait till you need to buy parts. Come to think of it, that's when you will do the waiting. The Italians make great motor bikes & motorcycles but their service support has a terrible reputation. I would like to get a 750 cc MotoGuzzi but not after the horror stories I have heard about getting service & parts.
Welcome to the world of scooters. I have had a Yamaha Majesty for about 1 3/4 yrs. It's been in the shop for three weeks waiting on Yamaha to authorize a repair so I have been stuck riding my backup

It commutes well. The in-town drive is fun. I'll try to post some real life pictures sometime. I don't have a digital camera, so the stock photo is all I have for now. It's the same color and everything though. 0 -
I just spent some time in Taiwan. Everybody there rides them. It gets pretty hairy there sometimes as the riders don't always follow the traffic signals and will jump up on the sidewalks frequently to get around cars. You have to keep your head on a swivel if you are walking around Taipei. 0 -

In MI if you are over 18 and the scooter is under 50cc you don't need a license, I have known a couple guys to ride them because their operators lic was suspended.[:0][:D]

The 250cc and up run in the neighborhood of 3500; mine was more, but I really like it. Depending on your town, 150cc is a good minimum. I rode a 50cc forever and if on a street with a limit of 45mph, you're a hazard almost. Going up off ramps presents a problems as well. I saw a Schwinn 150cc for under 2k. They get about 90mpg.0
