Locust Fork...Our Kids
I have been lurking here for quite some time and reading some of your post have compelled me to register.
I too have 1 female, age 18 and feel that I have raised several more of her friends as well.
I can feel for you as you express ur feelings about your daughters. I still worry about mine all the time but, Thats a big but.
I "tried" raising my daughter with values and morals during her younger years. Explaining to her with everyday issues she came across as she grew up. I did not raise he as my mother raised me. Why? Because I didn't like it. lol. Looking back I can see where I should have used some of her ideas.
I feel if you gave then values and morals when they were young then they will keep those values as they grow up. If no values or morals were put into their mind at a younger age, ur fighting a lost cause.
My wife and daughter did not have a good teenage relationship because my wife wanted it all her way. I was more on the lines as if it wont hurt her or someone else give her some rein. Let her guide her own course. If she bobbles....tighten her up.:)
They are going to drink, have sex, get in trouble, wreck a car and so on. Just let her know she can come to you for anything. She may get in trouble but then again she may not.
Short story... several guys 14 to 15 were spending the nite at ones house. Parents gone for the weekend. And the drinking started. One guy downed a 5th of vodka, passes out and throws up. The other guys got scared and left him alone. He died. How sad. I told my daughter that if she was ever around something like that to call me or 911. Trouble will wash away with time...death is forever!
Give her some freedom...if she oversteps it, jerk her back a notch or 2.

Your method has also been mine, through 4 Sons and 2 Daughters.
They have grown into Fine People.
