I would think it would depend on the game. If it's Jacks or better, toss the 4's. Your odds of getting one of the 9 Aces/Kings/Jacks left are much higher than getting one of the 2 remaining 4's.

If the AKJ are suited I hold them otherwise I hold the 4'S!

    But that is my choice.

Really depends on whose drawing how many cards in front of you also. I have played poker for many years and there is a lot of variables to chose from..nambu

You have a pair of fours and a AJK dealt. Jacks or better to win. Do you toss the fours or the AJK ? This question is creating all sorts of hate and discontent at work. TIA...Joe

Hate and disontent? This is 3rd grade math. As someone stated, your odds of winning keeping AJK are 9/47 and your odds of winning keeping the 2 4s at 2/47 - 4x+ more likely with the AJK.

This does not taking into account, however, that keeping 2 and tossing 3 slightly increase your chances of a better draw - ie: 3 3's for a full house.

You ignore that three of a kind pays three & two pair pays two.
The best way to find out is to play the machines that let you play fifty or one hundred hands. You can do this fairly cheaply if you can find a penny machine. I have been surprised to find that holding a pair pays fairly well. Note that this is a slot machine & not poker.
A pair of deuces is just as good as a pair of tens.
Just last week I got four of a kind on the deal playing ten hands.[:D]
Sadly I only had a nickle on each hand.[:(]I had just started playing so I was quite happy to quit & leave with about ten of their dollars.
I don't need much, just as long as I leave with some of their money.
