Milled or Stamped AK's-Your Opinion Please
Milled or Stamped AK receivers.
This subject drives me nuts!
Give us your opinion,
Which do you prefer and why?
In my biased humble opinion, a stamped receiver will work and last, just as long as a milled receiver.
To me, the milled receivers provide no extra benefits, other than additional unnecessary weight.
Ring in with your 2 cents!!!

I see no benefit in the milled receiver myself. Stamped is cheaper and lighter and just as reliable. 0 -
Milled receiver is what the gun was designed to be. The cheaper stamped ones are like basturd offspring from some cheap hooker met in a dark alley on a three day drunk. That about sums it up. 0 -
Milled. Will take a "licking and keep on ticking" 0 -
either one, makes no difference to me my friend. 0 -
The ideal of the AK was to create a simple cheap reliable weapon that was quick and easy to manufacture in the harshest of wartime conditions.
The stamped AK did not require any extensive skilled machining, or close tolerances, and was quick to manufacture by unskilled workers.
With a minimal amount of utilities required to operate a full scale plant.
Such as in Siberia, Afghanistan, Africa and all the other lovely forbidding desolate places in the world.
Its has been proven that the Pakistani hillbillies can build a dammed good AK, out of some old scrapped vehicle pieces, with nothing but primitive worn out hand tools, and a fire.
While, mostly using no more than a drill, a file, a hammer and a vise to manufacture the AK.
The AK series was so designed, that any uneducated idiot, "myself included".
So that anyone could build an AK series weapon, with the very basic of tools.
And made out of scrap sheet metal and an old axle shaft for the bolt assembly and barrel, if required to do so.
Don't take me wrong, I like the milled receivers.
But, I personally don't think a milled receiver gives the AK series weapons anymore of an advantage in reliability, accuracy or a longer service life, over the stamped receiver.

Stamped, they can dissipate heat faster!!!! 0 -
I prefer the milled receiver AK and own both.
I prefer the milled SKS triger guards over the stamped out trigger guards found on some SKS models.
Both types of SKS trigger guards work exactly the same but one is better built.0 -
Well I say milled. They just feel better to me. I would get technical and astound you all with my vast knowledge on this subject but how could I possibly say it any better than bigdaddyjunior? I believe I will go to bed now. GOODNIGHT! 0 -
For a shooter, I prefer stamped ... for investment, milled.
Why some people think milled is better is beyond me, but I guess that's why they command a premium. Stamped is cheaper ... but it was intended to be! I think it's an American concept of value ... up until the AK came around, all of our receivers were machined.0 -
Well they both have their merrits, but if forced to choose one, it would be a milled reciever. Just for rugedness. The stamped recievers are less expensive as a general rule, and run just as good, but there is something about that tinny feeling. The VEPR's and Siaga's are the best stamped reciever, as they are made with 1.5/1.6mm sheet metal instead of the 1mm stuff. They also have the RPK type trunion which is a plus. The milled stuff, one just does not have to worry about this stuff with. 0 -
back over a stamped one with your truck, now which one is tougher? 0 -

I like my 1.6mm stamped receiver. It works well for me. Although, I really wanted to go milled on my build. The stamped probaly represent the design of the AK better then milled. The original AK design called for a stamped receiver, but Russia lacked the technology to produce it. 0
