Test drove a new scooter today.
I tried out a Schwinn 150cc Sport LX. It possesses a lot more zip than the current 50cc; 45mph at less than half throttle. It rode decent in the slightly above 50 degree weather and responded well. The price comes in about half of the 400's. I'm researching now in the brand and line. Yes, it's the same company that makes bikes. From what I can gather they've stamped there names on these scooters. I wonder how well that could work. Would a company like Schwinn, with its reputation to uphold, put its stamp on something that isn't completable with Honda, Suzuki, etc.?

Schwinn is owned by Pacific Cycle. Both in Madison, WI.
I don't see on the website where the engines are coming from, I imagine this is a foreign product out of Tiwain or Italy, maybe even china.0 -
The schwinn scooters have the same engine on them about a 100 different brand of scooters have on them. The engines seem to be fairly decent. Its the other things about the scooters that fall apart and go bad.
Poor batteries
poor generator
poor starting solenoid
picocks have been troublesome
electrical issues
put together with any available bolt
You can gain a little speed if you remove the rev limiter. Its a little square plug in near the battery. Just a resister that limits it.0 -

The starter on my current scooter had problems, as did the battery. However, when kickstarting it, it almost always worked. The Schwinn seems better put together, and has some neat features lacking from mine. I'm hitting the Yamaha shop sometime next week to see what they have available.0 -
