Alternate CCW----recommendations, please
Usually my CCW is a PPKS; sometimes my S&W Model 36. I have small hands so both fit fine. Bought the wife a S&W 640/357mag sometime back and been kinda leaning on maybe getting me one; however, the S&W Model 60 has caught my eye, also. Pre-lock, naturally.
Any recommendations between the 640 and Model 60?

You didn't ask, but I'd suggest going for the aluminum framed "airweight" version (in .38, or scandium "airlight", if you must have .357).
Its much lighter, and a big boon if you are actually going to carry it around on your person all day. (I have both, and to me this is a no brainer).
Alloy frame also makes pocket carry substantially more comfortable, should you ever need to do that.
As to hammerless vs hammer version, that's personal preference. Either is fine (and personally I'd prefer either to a PPK).
Hammerless model is less likely to snag on clothing or your pocket. Though if the gun is kept in a holster (as it should be) it should reduce snagging, and its also not a big deal to put your thumb over the hammer during the draw to prevent snagging. Arguably, snagging is a GOOD feature, since it might help prevent the gun from falling out of a pocket by accident.
Another advantage to hammerless is that you can fire the gun from within a pocket, though actually you can probably do this with the hammered version as well. I've tried this (without ammo obviously!) and gun cycles fine in a normal pocket.
Last advantage is that hammerless necessitates a double-action trigger pull, which is a little safer than single action (less prone to "startle" or bump discharge, if your finger is on the trigger).
I personally prefer a hammered version since I like the ability to shoot SA on the range. If you think you may need to take a long-distance accurate shot, SA is going to be a boon.
You can always bob the hammer of a gun with a hammer, but you can't "unbob" a hammerless version!
On .38+P vs .357, its true that .357 is significantly more powerful, even from a short 2 inch barrel, but you're going to pay for that with substantially more noise, recoil, and an atom-bomb like muzzle flash. Of course the gun costs more too, and IMO, not worth it in a gun that's most likely to be used at point blank range.0 -
