    What is the difference between a NOVAK or a BOMAR cut in a slide?

    I want to put some new Novak sights on my 1911. I use the gun for target shooting only...either in an indoor range or outside plinking.

    Should I go with just the regular white dots or the fiber optic dots?

    Thanks.

    about .002

    they are different by degree of angle, and size

    edit:
    novak does make an adjustable sight, i have three of them

    If I'm getting a national match slide that is cut for BOMAR sights, can I get it resized to put NOVAK on it? I have NOVAK on my glock and shoot them very well.

    depends on the current cut, if it is a low mount or not

    older bomar cut measured 60*-65* x.330

    new bomar cuts measure 60*shoulder by .359

    novak measures 65* shoulder x.495
    {*=degree}

    so what i would do is not touch the gun, fit the sight to the gun, when you get the slide do a measurement on it, i may have a set your welcome to, i do know i have a set of Wilson tactical combat sights, that may or may not fit, i know the front sight has its own cut, and measures smaller

    your welcome to them if you can use them, if you cannot i want to have a give away

    here is what i replaced all my 1911 sights with

    the problem is not just the degree of the cut, but on the rear sight is the "low mount" if you look at it from the side you will see a drop behind the rear angle cut this is the big problem area if you do not have the proper cut, here is a example, notice the drop under the rear of the sight, it is kind f in the shadow, and hard to see

    !911a1fan: I'm looking at a sight upgrade for my 1911. How do the Novak adjustable ones stack up to the Wilson? Novak has fiber-optic inserts for their's that seem more practical than the Wilson. Plus, there less expensive. (Unfortunately that is a factor.)
