e-mail has been sent to those affected, but i wanted to apologise to everyone else for an un-intentionally mis-leading post concerning the wood shown in the earlier post

it was not what i expected to say the least.
i should have waited till i personally inspected it on arrival instead of being in a hurry to share with those here who had suggested i find some "fancier" wood
i also hadnt expected you kind folks to place orders on it right away!
two of those peices were shown on the end grain, and turned out to be unfit for use.
even angle sawing to try to salvage them was useless as they had badly ingrown bark inclusions as you can see in the pic below
all the dark spots are ingrown bark that was too deep to get past, even starting with a 3/8" thick blank to get a 1/4" grip!
luckily only one person had already paid for their order in advance, but they had picked a specific peice of wood...one of those that was garbage!
they have been notified and given the choice of pick from the good peices or a full refund. those who also asked for grips from this batch are still good, as i have enough nice wood to do those few sets.
note to self...remember this and dont trust ANY more online sales till you inspect it in person!!!

Tell the buyers that it's hard to get this special wood with ingrown bark ---but you will let these go for the regular price.

guys, all i can say is i am totally shocked with the responses here!
i was feeling like crap over this screw-up, and you guys like what i would have considered un-loveable.
the decision is up to the person who made the origonal order, if he still wants this set they are of course his, but he wanted checkering which i dont think is feasable with this set.
all who are asking if they will be available de forwarned that those bark spots are softer than the rest of the wood and may over time break out reguardless of any type of treatment.
wife wonders why i spend an hour or so on here each day..where else would you find a bunch of nuts to make you feel good about something you considered a disaster?!0 -

You should really put them up on the auction side with a $100 reserve.
I'd bet you'd get a lot more than that.
They are strikingly beautiful.
You could tag them as "Display Only Grips". I had a set of mother-of-pearl 1911 grips that split when I shot them. Package was marked for display only. Had I paid attention, I'd still have them.
