Our boys were allowed to have Bibles in Iraq. Travis had his with him, and they also had chapel services on Sunday.

It is a good story though, and I first heard it, slightly differently, about a WWII soldier, and the artist was Tex Ritter, I do believe.

The sergeant had caught the soldier in a chapel service, laying his cards out, and took him to the provost marshal for disrespecting the church. It was before the provost marshal that the soldier explained his use of the deck of cards.

Tex Ritter originally recorded it. Also, believe it or not, Wink Martindale recorded it, and later, in 1991 it was recorded by Bill Anderson.
Snopes gives the original version and the later version.
