I dont know about this...I smell BS in this post.
First off...the first step would have been to take EVERYTHING out of her possession if they were about to treat her this way. She never would have kept her cell phone and they would not have let her go to the restroom alone. A female would have escorted her.
And I do believe that this would have been all over CNN and FOX because the Iceland govt would have been complaining LOUDLY about this.

The news article has to be true. It's in print, so it has to be true.
No news reporter would ever slant news to make the USA look bad, ever.
There is no such thing as America hating news media.
I used to believe that the news media was to give the truth, now I know that they have an agenda and all news must be questioned.

Few people know that before 9/11 and Home Land Security, US Customs could hold anyone crossing the border for 72 hours JUST BECAUSE. No reason had to be given.

There are 20,000,000 more that are here and don't even have a visa. Thousands can be found early in the day at places like Home Depot or grocery stores waiting to be picked up for work. When they are all picked up and deported the goverment can have another news article about homeland security and we will be lured into talking about where more of the 20,000,000 are. I tend to agree with the medic, but I suspect there is some truth in the story. I've seen what a Master-At-Arms badge or a Shore Patrol brassard can do to some otherwise apparently normal people, and completely transform those who were idiots to begin with. When these type people are given a little "real" authority they can be a pain in the ass.
I would be interested in the "other side" of the story.
When I lived in Bremerton, Washington a young fellow was coming back into Washington from Canada and the Boarder Patrol decided to search his car for some reason. He gave them a bit of a hard time, so they did a "complete" search of his car. They dismantled every nut, bolt and weld in his car. When they finished he had a pile of metal and fabric. They told him "there's you car, do what you want to with it".
He put in an insurance claim because the Border Patrol had totaled his car. The claim was denied because the company called it "Police vandalism". He sued the Boarder Patrol and the judge said they didn't take any of his property, just did a "thorough" search.
I guess all you can do is try to cooperate and hope they don't single you out for some reason.0 -
In June 2007, my brother in law took his family, their spouses and children to Canada, for a visit with his oldest daughter. The group had 13 people, who had spent months getting passports, information, schedules and time off from work to go on this trip.
They flew from Indianapolis to Denver to Edmonton. Upon arrival they let everyone through except one of my nephews. They ran a "computer check" and found he had once committed a felony for pot possession. He had done his time, cleaned up his act and now had a steady job, a home, starting a family etc.(a mis-spent youth as many of us did/most didn't get caught)
They would not let him enter, because his possession of pot in Canada would have had him serve a stiffer penalty, or so he and the family were told, even though he had done the entire trial, jail, probation, etc. here in the states.
They sent him back to the U.S.A. the next morning, leaving his wife and daughter with the family. My wife and I drove to Indy and picked him up.
My feelings are double edged on this. I now use it as an example of why you need to stay out of trouble when I talk to young adults, telling them that your actions will follow you around forever now, while on the other side, I'm a little mad that he wasn't allowed in after serving time for the crime.
It's their rules you have to abide by them. 9/11 changed the world forever.0 -

Oh, please. She overstayed her visa twelve years ago. She didn't rob a liquor store.
Flying First Class? She has some money. Either she paid full-price, or she can afford to fly enough to get enough airline miles to upgrade. Either way, she ain't destitute. Going to New York to do shopping? How many hundreds or thousands of dollars would she have spent? How many nights was she planning to stay, paying for a hotel room? Cab fare, food, entertainment... It seems to me that the U.S. economy lost a little bit here.
Not that a single person is going to make a difference. But how many people have read this article? How many people have read other articles about other people who have been similarly harassed? How many of these people are going to spend their vacation dollars elsewhere?
'Fine. Let them.' I can hear you saying. Well, tourism is a big part of the U.S. economy. Not that some people care. As long as they can go to Wal-Mart and buy their outsourced-to-China products, sending their money overseas to a Communist country whose making of these Wal-Mart goods stimulates their production, which causes the Chinese to require more oil, which drives up our gas prices. Face it: We live in a global economy. We need people to come spend their money here.
Beyond that, we're treating our visitors very rudely. We're terrible hosts. And personally, if some hot Icelandic chick wants to overstay her visa at my place I'd let her! [}:)]
(Incidentally, I recently had a Super-Hot woman pounding on my door for hours. I finally had to let her out.)0 -
It does affect the economy, but probably not as much as you might think. The dollar is so cheap now that people with the coin come here from Europe and Asia to buy goods made in Europe and Asia. Many times they can buy things made in their country of origin cheaper in the United States than they can in their own country. 0 -

Nevertheless, it's here they're spending money. A lot of stuff is imported; but when it's sold here it provides a livelihood to the proprietors who sell it. It provides jobs for the people who work for the proprietors. Foreign visitors rent cars from American rental companies, and buy rides from American (or at least resident alien) cabbies. The cabbies and the people who work for the rental companies take the money brought by foreign visitors and sue it to buy other things in this country. And visitors need accommodations...
Not to mention that one can't visit Knott's Berry Farm in England. Sure they can visit Disneyland in France, but they can't visit Walt Disney World in Orlando in France. Ana again, they're bringing money in to pay for food, accommodations, transportation, and so on.
Part of the reason the dollar is depressed is that we have outsourced a lot of our manufacturing to foreign countries. Our economy is now largely service-based. We get money from people coming here, while we ship money out to buy our stuff. Heck, my American Jeep was partly made in Canada, and has some Japanese components! I've nothing against a global economy. But if we want a strong economy here, we should try to narrow the gap between what goes out and what comes in. And we're not going to do that by alienating people who come over here specifically to spend their money, and who make the news by getting their governments involved, and by sharing their experiences with millions of people who surf the Internet.

This gal is a dumbazz.
She admits to being aware that she'd violated US immigration laws the last time she entered this country, she failed to even attempt to clear this matter up and is shocked at being detained and denied entry the next time. Who would've thought? Checking with the consulate to determine her status ahead of time apparently would've been too much of an inconvenience.
The treatment she describes is SOP for illegal immigrants who are caught trying to enter. She was checked, determined to be illegal, detained, searched and then transported to a federal holding facility awaiting a deportation hearing-simple as that. By doing this the Customs officers at the port of entry weren't just throwing their authority around. They aren't empowered to wave previous violations and change a persons entry status simply because a certain amount of time has passed. This is what the hearing before a judge is for.
I also find it funny that this ditz can't comprehend why inmates aren't allowed to have their cell phones. All inmate communications are restricted to in-house phones, mail and registered visitors for security purposes. This is SOP in any modern detention facility, probably including those in her own country.
The bottom line is that she was treated like a criminal because she committed a felony offense the last time she was here. She was fully aware of this but failed to even look into the matter prior to showing up at a port of entry, assuming it wouldn't be a big deal because she didn't see it as such. Apparently Iceland has their share of idiots, too.
Her lack of common sense tells me all the money she apparently has didn't come from her own efforts. [;)]0 -

I was stationed in Iceland for five months.They let us go into town on Wedneday night, they closed all the bars down.A black person could not spend more then twentyfour hours on the island.If iceland were to sink into the ocean it would be no great loss. 0 -
