I am looking to get a small caliber pistol mainly for target shooting probable in the $200 - $300 range. any sugestions?

This is a nitpick, but since the Koolaid Krowd is having fits over this post and no one has mentioned it, the CAUTION is not applicable to this usage.
Any action that can cause great bodily injury or death is to be announced as a WARNING, with or without a skull and crossbones.
Cautions are used to warn of possible equipment destruction.
Two examples might be;
Warning; AIDS Patient Onboard
Caution; Idiot Cell Phone User Onboard0 -
1. The key word in CONCEALED CARRY is concealed. Advertising spoils that.
2. Here, your CCW gets noted on the DMV computer, so when officer Fiendly runs your plate, it comes back CCW.
3. Run into license checkpoints/ DUI Checkpoints now and again. My CCW and DL are together. If it is night, flip on the interior light. Holding the DL and CCW together, say to the nice LEO "Evening- CCW licensee." And extend the two licenses. Most folks around here will say thanks for letting us know.
4. My only bumper sticker was present from daughter. Says "Do Not Annoy the Crazy Person". [:p]0 -

I don't think it is a good idea, either. Keep a low profile and don't draw attention to yourself, no matter where you drive. The world is full of nutcases and, regretfully, there is a very small minority who are cops. Do nothing to make the man who pulls you over nervous. That is just good common sense. 0 -
I don't like stickers on vehicles. I don't like to advertise that there may be a weapon or other valuables in my vehicle. I don't even display my Life Member NRA sticker on my vehicles. 0 -
On all our vehicles, the only one that has a sticker is the BBT (Big Black Truck Ford Super Duty dually). Its' sticker says "There is no situation that cannot be resolved through the judicious use of HIGH EXPLOSIVES".
Never been pulled over in it or been harrassed.
