There was a post a couple of months ago about what gun control people were willing to accept and live with. Background checks and age limits were very popular answers. One or two even floated the idea of registration. It was very enlightening and very sad. Refreshingly, many weren't OK with any restrictions. 0 -
No restrictions....
If I want to go down to my local True Value and buy a Tommy Gun it shouldn't be a problem.0 -
I believe in the constitution of the United States. 0 -
Highball--The tone of your message is similar to several that have popped up over the years telling GB members to "wake up" and all that. Quite frankly, you're preaching to the choir for the most part.
Considering that all authority exercised by the Federal Government over gun ownership is merely an extension of the Interstate Commerce Clause, I find all forms of gun control unacceptable and deplorable. Use of the ICC is a far stretch to do as much as the Federal Government has done.0 -

As do I..
I also believe that it is too late.. Our country is lost to socialist, fascists, communists, marxists, illegals or just plain idiots who do not understand or do not appreciate freedom.
It is too late [V]0 -
I dont know why we need age limits. After all it is gun control. Why cant the mentally impaired have a Tommy gun, after all that is gun control.
Now we all see a need for some type of cun control law WHO DECIDES where and when to stop? Why are some laws okay and any you disagree with wrong?
I guess I am for gun control because I think lots of people should not have them. But I know I cant pass a law to enforce my opinions. Maybe when I become ruler of the world. [:D]
I am gald no one will ever ask me to solve this problem because I have no idea as to how that can or will ever happen.0 -
EhlerDave raises a good point. If you say that you do not believe in "any" gun control whatsoever, then do you agree that any person no matter age or mental capacity can purchase/own/posess a firearm? 0 -

I don't think so. Not so long ago we had a poster (who is in the military) say he'd do whatever he was ordered to, regardless of legality.0 -
Actually...no..
"We" DON'T "All see a need for gun control"..really.
Mental defectives buying guns only will happen one time per person.
Children buying guns...so what ? I bought my first at about 11 years of age...or twelve, perhaps...that being a PARENTS decision...not the goverments.
"Preaching to the choir"..really ? the deadly threat to gun ownership comes NOT from the stridently anti-gun..the Shumers/Fiensteins/Kennedys...but from gunowners pretending that they are pro-gun...and supporting politicians that vote to end gun ownership.0 -

Parents not Goverment should be the deciding factor of whether a child is responsible or not to own a firearm. And those who don't have the mental capacity would eventually be eliminated.0 -

I dont understand this.
Now I am sure gonna feel better knowing every gangbanging mom and dad gave billy bob junior a gun at age 5 and sent him out to play. I am afraid this statement does not make me feel better. Do you feel that your life should be decided by some of the parents we see everyday? I sure dont. It is sad to admit a lot of parents fail but it is a reality we must deal with.
I will do what I can when I can to help with all the people I can but we are still greatly out number by people who just dont care what their kids do as long it does not bother them .0 -

Are you willing to bet your wife, son, daughter, mother, sister, father, brother on this process of elimination? I am not.0 -
It's fine to say you want no restrictions, but think about what that means:
Gang-bangers - guns on demand.
That stalker who's been after your wife or daughter or sister - guns on demand.
Mexican "nationalist" who happens to be an American citizen - guns on demand.
There's a whole host of people who are incapable and unworthy of the responsibility of gun ownership.
It may be a right, but it's also a responsibility and if certain restrictions make it harder for criminals and other undesirables to get their hands on a firearm, so much the better.
The key is to make sure that said restrictions do not target law-abiding citizens.
Criminals will always find a way - that is true. But it doesn't mean we need to help them.0 -
It's pretty simple really. Either we comply with the Constitution or we don't. We decided years ago to ignore the Constitution. The only question now is to what degree. Kind of like being a little bit pregnant.
The way it was supposed to work was Congress passes a bill to restrict gun ownership and/or use. It's not the job of Congress to worry whether something is Constitutional or not. Then the President either signs or vetoes the bill. It's not the President's job to worry whether something is Constitutional or not. If he signs the bill making it a law, then the Supreme Court says "Hay, wait a minute, we can't do that because we have to comply with the Constitution." It is the Supreme Court's job to worry whether something is Constitutional. After the Supreme Court declares the law to be null and void, that's the end of it until Congress passes it again.
Unfortunately, we have a Congress who's members for the most part have never read, much less understand, the Constitution. I suspect all the members of the Supreme Court have read the Constitution, but either don't understand it or it is contrary to their political leanings.0 -

Every one of those people you mention GET 'gun on demand'..every day.
Or do you not read or listen to the news ever ?
What IS prevented is YOU being armed..because YOU obey the law.
What you guys are missing is the plain and simple truth..Criminals are criminals because they obey no laws...including whatever precious gun law you support.
Because YOU refuse to demand swift justice for perpetrators of violence is no reason to disarm those of us willing to defend ourselves from the ghouls allowed to walk freely amoung decent people.0 -
"It's the Constitution, stupid".
Quote paraphrased.
