My plan for Iraq
1) Make Iraq an American colony, like the US Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico.
2)Split it into 3 seperate "counties" - Kurd, S'hiit (however it's spelled) and Sunni.
3)TAKE whatever oil we want, and use a little of the profit for infrastucture and humanitarian purposes.
4)Make men of between 14 and 50 sign up for the draft.
5)Create an "American Foreign Legion" using US cadre and Iraqi draftees. Model it on the french Foreign Legion.
6)Use the Legion to perform our Global Policing requirements.
7) When the oil is gone, leave.
It's worked for the British, french, Spanish and many others. It is our turn.

I doubt that the folks living in Iraq would find your plan much to their liking and we would probably see one car bomb per hour, rather than the current one per day, until we are gone. This plan would be easier to do with Mexico. 0 -
Global policing requirements my ass. We need to go back to isolationism, stop bleening with other countries and they'll stop bleening with us. I think this "plan" would only dig us further into the mess that is the middle east. 0 -

What we need to do is get our troops OUT of the Iraqi cities, including Baghdad. Put them in secure and remote desert bases where they can act as quick reaction forces to target foreign fighters ONLY. Let the Iraqis handle the Iraqis, our troops should NOT be fighting Sunni insurgents or the Mahdi Army. Put the rest of our forces along the border to target any foreigners bringing weapons or coming in to fight.
That should be the focus of our military efforts, targeting Al-Qaeda and foreign fighters, leave the internal Iraqi fighting alone. The Iraqi insurgents aren't going to "come get us over here", they are fighting for control of their own country. They don't give a s**t about us beyond our interference in their little civil war. The foreign fighters are the only ones who should concern us. The types of people who would travel to another country to wage jihad or commit terrorism are the problem, those are the extremists who don't care if they live or die.0 -

I've been saying tear the country apart and dissolve it for months. Keep a chunk to ourselves in the middle as a buffer zone (if we want it) and split the rest up with Iraq's neighbors. Use Iran's piece as a bargaining chip. Hell, use it all as bargaining chips. We oughta get something back out of it.
Contrary to popular belief in Washington, Iraq is not similar to a fledgling 13 colonies. They don't want to unite. They have no desire to! So why are we trying to fit a square block in a round hole for a trillion dollars and thousands of lives lost? If it was divided up, each piece could fall under the new countries' laws and be governed and policed by them. If the existing population wasn't happy, it wouldn't be too far of a move for them to get to another section. End of story. Everybody comes home.0 -
