Centerfire scope normally have a parallex set for 100 or more yards (depending on power) and rimfire scopes normally have parallex set for 50 yds (some 75). Scopes with an adjustable parallex can be used for either.
I've used centerfire scopes on rimfires with no problems.
Also, the centerfire scopes are built a little tougher to handle the recoil.

Hope that explains something. Don't ask me to explain parallex. Go to www.opticstalk.com to have the scope nerds explain that.

Used to be that most rimfire scopes had smaller tubes and kinda junky rings/mounts. I think Ruger firs advocated using good optics on .22s.

Whe I was a kid, NOBODY put scopes on .22s - there was just no percieved need. I wonder what has changed ??
