The decomposing body of a Lafayette mother - who had been stabbed in the neck multiple times as long as a month ago - was stuffed in the back of a Subaru wagon parked in her garage when police found her this week, sources said.
The grisly discovery led to the arrest of the victim's daughter, Tess Damm, 15; the girl's boyfriend, Bryan Grove, 17; and his friend, Jared Smith, 16; all who could be charged today in the homicide of Linda Juergens. The three teens attended Centaurus High School.
Police are working on a theory that Grove killed Juergens by himself without the knowledge of her daughter, sources close to the case said. The 52-year-old woman's body was moved a few times around the house and ended up in Juergens' light-blue wagon parked inside her two-car garage at 705 Brome Place.
After an autopsy Thursday, the Boulder County Coroner's Office reported that the victim died from multiple stab wounds. She may have been dead for at least a few weeks, sources close to the case reported.
Police, acting on an anonymous tip, discovered Juergens' body Wednesday afternoon. According to neighbors of the family in the Beacon Hill neighborhood, Damm and her boyfriend had been "coming and going at all hours of the night" and blaring loud music over the past few weeks, leaving them wondering where the typically "strict" mother was.
Lafayette police continued their investigation Thursday, with crime-scene experts from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation searching the house for evidence for the second day.
Damm and Grove were living at the Lafayette home, according to neighbors.
It is unclear what role Smith, who played football and ran track at Centaurus, may have had in Juergens' slaying.
"My client is really a witness in this case more than anything," said Smith's attorney, Lance Goff. "An important witness."
Damm's attorney, Beth Kelley, said her client is "devastated."
"She's still very much a kid," Kelley said.
The three will be in court today, when Magistrate T.J. Cole will set their bond amounts and prosecutors may file charges. Prosecutors in the Boulder County District Attorney's Office did not return calls to comment on whether any of the juveniles will face adult charges.
