New internet scam
My friend was looking at cars for sale on C****'s List when he came across this deal. 2000 Toyota Celica for $2,900. Shipping included. I told him that it was a scam. After some research on the net he found other accounts of this same one. Here are the two e mails that were sent to my buddy from the scum bag scammer. Look at the wording that the guy used, highlighted in orange. Does'nt sound like military, or even American lingo to me. That was the first clue that it was a scam.

Hello and sorry for my delay,
I'm Sgt. Mike Donald. 2000 Toyota Celica GTS is in perfect working condition. This vehicle engine runs very, very smooth. No electrical problems on this beauty. This detailed vehicle makes the exterior look like it just came off the assembly line. The car has only 72,112 original miles.VIN Number: JTDDY38T2Y0018991
Transmission: Manual
Year: 2000 Fuel Type: Gasoline
The car is equipped with leather seats, power windows, power mirrors, power sunroof, cruise control, AM/FM/CD/Casette, A/C, and much more. It was never involved in any accident, not even minor ones. The body and paint are great. The interior is super clean, mechanically, it runs like a cat on carpet.

So if you decide on buying the car, I want the deal closed only through eBay's Safe Purchase program. You will make the payment to eBay and they will hold the money until you receive the car. ONLY AFTER you receive the car and you inspect it, eBay will release the payment to me, in this way we are both protected. I signed up for US military forces and I was sent here with my department for peace maintenance.I am located in Helsinki, Finland. 1 months ago, my wife moved here, with me and brought the car with her, but now we have to sell it back in the United States, because we can't drive it here because we can't register it here; it has US specs and everything, and registering it here in Europe will take for ever. My final price on it is US 2,900 $. If you will take it for this price, I am willing to handle the shipping .It will be shipped from here by plane with US Air Military Cargo so it will not cost me anything. You will get it to the nearest airport in your area and then it will be trucked forward to your place. Please get back to me asap if you decide to buy, and include in your e-mail your full name and address where you want it shipped so I can start the deal with eBay. You will receive all the transaction payment and shipping details from them.
Cheers,
Mike and Collen Donald

Hi again,
As I said in my first email the car is currently located in Helsinki, Finland. It will be shipped from here by plane with US Air Military Cargo so it will not cost me anything. You will get it to the nearest airport in your area and then it will be trucked forward to your place. Shipping will be done door-to-door, to your exact location, so you will not have to pick the car up yourself.
The price for the car is $2,900 USD. This price includes all the shipping taxes and fees. Ebay will hold the funds until you receive and accept the car.I will have access to the funds only after you test and inspect the car (you will have 10 days to do that) and in case somethins goes wrong or the car is not as advertised you will be fully refunded. Anyway i am sure if you will don`t be satisfied about the car i will surely find another buyer in your area and there will be no need for you to ship the car back. Ebay will guarantee for that. From the moment the payment is secured by eBay the shipping process will begin and it will arrive at your address in about 3 days. You will also receive all the documents including the titles and a Bill of Sale. The cargo is insured so if the car is damaged during the shipping you will also be refunded.
Everything is taken care of, I forwarded your info to eBay and they should shortly contact you with all the transaction details.
I will proceed with shipping immediately after eBay confirms me that you made the payment. You`ll have the chance to test-drive it soon.
After you will hear from them please email me back because I need to know for sure if this is a done deal!.
Hoping to hear from you soon

I ship military peoples stuff....cars go by boat.
I've only heard of a privately owned vehicle being flown on military planes once....it was a General's boat and everything was hush hush.
GI's register their vehicles in Europe....with their military command...not foreign countries.0 -
Keep in mind that this about a $12,000 car.

$11,625. Yep Toyota!0 -
Let's see here...
Last time I was in Finland there were MoPars all over the place. Fact is, as I sat at the hard-currency hotel in Vyborg, Russia I heard the unmistakable sound of a muscle car. Would you believe a pristine '69 Dodge Super Bee R/T convertible?
Finland of all places has a rather open policy about US iron. Then there's the matter that it wouldn't be registered directly in Finland anyway.
Can anyone pronounce SCAM?0 -
ya think its a scam?[:X] 0 -
Why don't you excercise this guy and tell him you'll take it, and then see what he does to get money from you up front.
You also might ask him for his unit, location, and COs name.
Betcha he disappears quickly.
