Computer internet speed question

My computer has always been trouble free and very fast, but I recently bought my stepson a wireless modem so that he can access the internet from his room. If he is on the internet at the same time as I am, would that slow down my computer?? Also, if he is online and picks up a virus on his laptop, could it affect my desktop computer?

  Virus question, no You must have a router with your set up. Routers are one of the best set ups to stop viruses and trojan horses on your computers. What you need to do is keep the spyware off of his computer. Your computer will be fine though.
  
  Speed question is a yes it will. Your cable modem is going to be whatever speed your connection is. It could be 2mb, 5mb, 10mb, whatever. You will only have that speed of a connection and which you will be using it twice as much. You won't see a half slow down, but if either one of you are downloading something and using most of the resources there will be some slow down for the other person. Besides that, you will probably not even notice.

  With only 2 computers and a high speed connection, you will not percieve a slowdown.
