Computer help?

I had something sneak into my machine a couple of days ago and can't seem to get rid of it.

First indication was when everything started running slow. I then began getting bombarded with entire spam web pages, along with pop-ups and cookies by the truckload. I was getting multiple IEXPLORE.EXE's running and also saw that my CPU was staying pegged at close to 100% capacity at all times. The machine would just shut down and immediately re-boot periodically.

When I installed a fresh anti-virus program I found and quarantined one with a file name of svchest.exe and another named Trojan-Downloader.Win32.VB.ayr.

My up to date McAfee just ain't cutting it. I'm limping along, but still have to block cookies that show up in streams and my CPU is still staying at ~97%. The periodic re-booting issue has slowed, but it's still there.

I'm far from being a computer wizardand am ready to take my hard-drive out and bury it under an Oak tree during a full moon. Before I do, any suggestions on what I might do to kill this monster?

I don't know jack about computers really, but got a problem I need some input on.
I can't open some attachments because the computer keeps telling me the program has done something illegal.
The files say I have wordpad, but the error icon keeps coming up. I know Winzip is not installed but would that keep some attachments from opening? I tried puting it on floppy and it copies, but still says ILLEGAL when I try to run it.
Anyone know how to fix this?

Is it possible to recover a folder that was put in the "trash" after the trash has been emptied? I have the name of the folder if it's possible to search for it and recover it.

Sometimes a simple reboot can help things. If not that, I haven't
    a clue.

Get yourself a nice hammer tap the computer lightly three times and wait for a response when this fails beat the hell out of it.

If you recently did maintenance - got rid of cookies and temp files and defrag - this will sometimes make them go away. It seems inconsistant and the only way I've found to fix it is to start building them again.

    Good luck.
