I guess they are just too busy for us.

SALEM, Ore. - Oregon Senator Gordon Smith is in trouble with some members of his own party over the immigration issue.
Marion County Republicans say they are distressed over Smith's positions on the U.S. immigration reform bill.
They say he's going "too soft" on illegal immigration.
Republican Wayne Brady said "the 50,000 plus Republicans in Marion County are not going to be happy if he votes for this bill."
Their concerns are so great, they've written Smith a letter saying they're at odds with the senator on various issues and they even suggested he read the Oregon Republican Party platform.
Smith has reportedly alienated his Republican base for a number of reasons.
He has joined Democrats in calling for a troop withdrawal in Iraq and he is supporting the governor's "healthy kids plan" which calls for a cigarette tax hike.
KATU called Smith's office in Washington D.C. and were told they had no comment about the letter, and that they were going to "let this one go."
Rick Hickey of Oregonians for Immigration Reform said that "for somebody who represents us not to answer to us, or the media, is absolutely astounding. I don't want to live in a country of kings and queens. I want to live in a country that represents the voters."
Many in the Republican party think that kind of frustration could cost Smith his job, especially if the party faithful decide they're too angry to vote.
"Me myself. I wouldn't vote. Period," Hickey said.
So far, Democrat Steve Novick is the only candidate who has publicly said he is challenging Smith in the next election.

I am noticing alot of this from Republicans lately. I think their 15 years of control of the house has gotten to their heads and they forgot who put them there. 0 -

There may be a brite side. You say liked him once? The immigration issue has split the Republican Party and exposed the false conservative from true conservatives. Now we can only hope that people such as yourself will clean house in your individual states. If he's not representing you, campain against him and get someone better.

I agree Doug! I have sent Mr. Smith at least three faxes in the last two weeks alone telling him how I feel about sealing off the border first and, no to amnesty. Not one word out of him in reply.
Mr Weiden our other fun Senator has not replied either. But then I expected him to ignore me since they check the roles and only respond to those who are of the same party. Weiden is a snake to begin with but I thought Smith was a straight shooter. But he has become a liberal Republican to save his job I suppose. We must remember this is the Mass of the West!0 -

I have a bit of an advantage - I've been a registered dimocrat for, maybe 20 years. I have never strayed from my Conservative Republican philosophy. I've done it so I can vote in their primaries and try to be a spoiler. They also pay more attention to my voice and I can help make them think that perhaps all dimocrats aren't liberal.
