I don't understand this ad, please someone explain

Since I own a Colt Frontier Scout, I check GB ads occasionally for comparison purposes. I ran across this ad this morning and I don't understand the seller's statement. He says "new" (??)
"after years of storage---the loading gate has developed some wear" (HOW--??).
Check the pix in the ad.

"This auction is for a new Colt Frontier Scout '62. This Colt is new in the box, but after years of storage, the loading gate has developed some wear. All of the original factory materials are included, in the factory box. Chambered for .22 Long Rifle. If you have any questions on this revolver, please feel free to ask."

    Here's my guess...

    Unless it's suspended in some sort of anti-graviy chamber, there will always be some sort of wear. Taking it in and out of the box causes wear. Even just sitting in the safe, it's subjected to vibration from opening and closing the safe door.

    He states it in the ad as new. Check the sellers feed back.

    Handguns often suffer wear from storage. They can slide around in boxes and drawers causing scratches and loss of bluing.

    Collectors and shooters argue over what constitutes "new" when describing a gun. I prefer to say "unfired" because once a gun is shipped from the factory it starts to accumulate wear from handling and storage even if never fired or holstered and I don't know if "new" is really a correct term.

    ...50% of this guys bad FB, raises the question about the description of the auction item not being correct...and loves to call everybody else the "liar".

    ...Guns do NOT "develop" wear on their own, oh, wait a minute...if they shoot people on thier own I guess they could develop wear on thier own too...[;)]

    looks a bit ruff for new, with storage wear to me, more like 10,000 draws from a holster, look at the frame, trigger guard, cylinder, and barrel

    but i may be wrong, it could be from storing it in the back of a covered wagon while on the trail, at least it would sound better

    Guess some folks have a diferent perpection on what new in the box means.

    That pistol looks well worn to me.

    From the auction pictures I don't see a cylinder ring, which would indicate cocking, and the left side of the gun looks okay. However, the right side of the gun sure shows a lot of wear, even for box wear, a lot more than I would expect. I guess it was from shaking the box to see if anything was in it.[:D]
