rare sight indeed..pics.........updated try this
A friend of the family called earlier this morning and wanted me to see this deer with my own two eyes before the gamewarden carried him off ..the mother was killed in front of their house by a truck last night near the ohio river..the fawn took right to a bottle provided by a local vet..I gave them my best speach about natures way etc,and couldn't go see it for myself..they emailed me these pics. they have contacted the columbus,ohio zoo and the game warden was coming to pick.."him" up and transport him there for a life in captivity..the small buck will not be breeding and IMHO thats a good thing for the gene pool....although I have seen pie-bald does around our county before he is a true albino..Loko
btw..i called them and they did admit it ..unwillingly that they got them through an email..aaarrrrggggghhh [:(!]..

Can't see your photo, but I bet it is a beaut, pink eyes and all. It turns out that albinos and other forms of color varients turn up moderately frequently in cervids and often survive to adulthood. You would think Santa would have a full team of white caribou (rain deer). 0 -

they only die easier because they dont have a natural color ..no camoflauge for predators or the ultimate predator..man shoots them ie: they stickout like a sore thumb in the woods..and no IMHO the meat wouldn't taste any diff..Loko...btw thats his wifes shoe size 6 she said for size comparison0 -

Albinos differ in having no melanin in their skin, the normal pigment mammals have in differing amounts. This does not affect the flavor of meat at all. They do not necessarily die young, but are much more visible to predators than normal colored animals, so the usual statement is that they tend not to survive to grow old because they get eaten youn. This is presumptive, and it turns out they (albino cervids in general) survive to adulthood with some regularity. They are by no means common, but they do do fairly well. 0 -
