Turks
I was in the Med. in the 80's. The Turks treated us great! They were great hosts. Now they have sepratists (Kurds) causing trouble in their land and our government is not being supportive. Turley has had the land for the past 800-900 years. It is theirs. They fought for it and won it. We should not be giving them grief over this. We got the same problems with La Raza/illegals. The Turks are doing the right thing. Perhaps they could teach our government a thing or two?

stupid people in our government & their actions may cost the US a good ally....we have to few to behave this way 0 -

Since you mention Gibbons, it is worth mentioning that I advanced his theroy (which I believe)on these boards that Christianity brought on the fall of the Roman Empire and I was ROUNDLY critisized by the Gun Broker gang for even suggesting this. If you've actually read Gibbon's work you are probably going to be deemed too much of an egg-head to be taken seriously around here...Unless you were turning the pages at a tractor pull or a NASCAR event.0 -
I admire the Turks and wish we were treating them better. Yeah, they didn't support us when we decided to invade Iraq, but had we taken their advice, we might not be in the mess we're in today.

I've been reading The Ottoman Centuries by Lord Kinross - an interesting look into the Turks' history. It's not very kind to Christianity as a whole where the fall of Constantinople is concerned.0 -

Yes. You'll also notice that, in the Kurdish areas of Iraq, there is little to no terrorist activity and they're actually rebuilding their infrastructure and economy.

I've got no problem with the Kurds forming Kurdistan out of northern Iraq. In fact, if we pulled tent pegs out of central and southern Iraq and hung our hat there, I think all of our problems would be solved!
My only concern is that right now, as we are doing things, is that we are givng the Kurds their freedom without any restraints. The kurds have de facto independence and what are they doing with it? They're sheltering terrorists and killing civilians in cross-border raids.
That does not say a whole lot in terms of granting them their own country because they, just as much as the others inhabitanta of Iraq, have come to believe that freedom from tyranny means the freedom to kill people you don't like and have what you want.
Turkey's been more than patient - ten times as patient if you look at how many people the Kurds have killed compared to how many we lost on 9-11.
If the Kurds want their own country, they'd better start acting more mature and civilized, otherwise I couldn't and won't care less who comes along and beats the living hell out of them.0 -

The Kurds deserve their own Country.
