any one have an aftermarket Nav system? Like the TOM TOM, or a Garmin vehivle mounted system? How easy are they to use? How is the display? ETC...

I use garmin c330, it is absolutely idiot proofed, really. You just touch the screen icons to tell it where you want to be.
It has a few display options, but I use the 2D overhead view. It shows green fields, blue water, red highways and grey side streets (almost all streets will be named unless they are new within the last couple years)0 -
I bought the Garmin Street Pilot C330 for the wife for Christmas. While she is still trying to figure out how to use it, I thought it was very easy to use. The screen is plenty big and the resolution is very good. 0 -
I mostly mapquest my directions, but Ive heard both good and bad thing about them.
Although I'll admit I would have used one when I use to deliver furniture, cause the bosses were so inept that the paper handouts they gave for directions were shotty at best. Yes they refused to upgrade all the trucks to the garmin system. [:(!]
My question is do they give both directions for toll roads and highway travel or does it push you to toll roads?
If you want to spring for one shop around and ask the salesman to show you different models, etc... Then you can go online to get the cheapest price.0 -

tom tom has a real bad problem,updating if you take a different turn,or a short cut... i dream about making u turns... 0 -

I have a Garmin Nuvi 350 and love it. Recalculating a rate is super fast...the only draw back is that on a cloudy day when you first turn it on it can take about 2 mins to locate the satls. However, I've read the Garmin is even the fastest and best recieving of all of them. Tom Tom is certainly at the top, but I'm going to have to place them at 2nd. 0 -
i like my tom tom. my company liked the tom tom enoung to buy thirty of them. easy to use, decently priced. user friendly. recalc rate could be a bit quicker but yout cant have everything in life. im sure you can do better, but you can also pay more. and if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. 0 -

I have three Garmin handhelds and three Garmin automotive (and motorcycle) units. The automotive units are a piece of cake, the handhelds for hiking and hunting can get a little intensive if you set them up to identify each other and use the polling software to locate each other, but once you've done it once, it comes easy. 0 -

No as far as the GPS goes, and usually, folks do update the road maps every year or two at a cost of around $100.
You do have to subscribe to the traffic service if you want instant traffic updates as you drive and to the weather service if you want instant Nexrad weather radar, but no service is needed for routing and points of interest or turn by turn voice commands.0 -
FIL has a COBRA unit. Touchscreen also. He says if you go off the plan, it corrects itself to your route and plans a new route from were you are. 0 -
I've got the TomTom 910, and use it on my motorcycle, and in my truck. I can't say it is flawless, but it is a lot better than I ever imagined it would be.
I've had other people with me on some of the trips I've taken, and at least 6 of them have bought their own now.0 -

I'm too busy dodging all the swerving cars doing 45mph in a 65 zone while they look at/fumble through the screens on their GPS, Satellite TV, cell phone...etc to have a use for GPS in any of my vehicles.

Same here,......senior citizens, that rarely go out of town, are buying them.
I love it when I see an 80 year old with cataract glasses on looking at their GPS, and talking on a cell phone, as they straddle the line.
Then you honk the horn, and they look at you like you are crazy!0 -
I know what these do but really what good are they for use around the area you live?
I can't see the use for one unless I am going to be driving in a strage place.
