an iiiinteresting question...
I got a box of stuff at an auction. this was in it.

since I now legitimately, legally and otherwise own the contents of the box, including this here check, do you think I could take it to the bank it's from, cash it and collect my 150 bucks?

checks kinda old aint it? 0 -
As long as it isn't over 6 months old,.........and it looks like the date has been fudged with.
If you want to be an "honest" guy, you call the person back, and tell them what you found, and shred it!
Remember a little thing called Kharma![;)]0 -
a little over 6 months, I think they're good for 1 year 0 -

honest! feh! I won it fair and square. I wanna cash it.0 -
I'd sell it on ebay, I would think a check made out to Johnny Cash would be worth well more than $150.00.
It's all about marketing.[;)]0 -
Maybe this is a joke,......but most are good for 6 months, not a year.
Obviously forget the "honesty" thing.
Call your bank,.......the account could also be closed.
Then do whatever floats your boat!0 -
HHHmmmmm... good idea.
I'd get more $$$ out of it if I think like a Ferengi.0 -
if I had it I would rip it up. It wasn't meant for me nor did I earn it. 0 -

Why are you bothering to post the question then?0 -
to see what y'all think! can I? should I? 0 -
I think a check is good for awhile, unless stated on the check "void after x amount of days". As far as what to do with the check, I'd shred it. What goes around, comes around. 0 -
I'd cash it. 0 -
every time ive ever written a check out to cash, the teller carded me 0 -
Good luck cashing that one! 0 -
probably more trouble than it is worth
but if your adamant about it call the bank see if the account is even open0 -
With the date like it is, I think you would be spending some time with a Policeman.

Tear it up.
The right thing will always make you feel better.0 -
Just deposit it into your account, and when it bounces you'll know what the current services charges are for a bounced check. [:D] 0 -
best point made...it wasnt intended for you and you didnt earn it.
trash it.0 -
Call the person who wrote the check and tell them you are tearing it up. The feeling you get from doing the right thing is worth more than $150. 0 -
That check has 'shady' written all over it. Throw it away and save yourself a lot of hassle. 0 -
i agree, tear it up. 0 -
Interesting legal question. If it were cash in the box it would be yours. Check made out to cash so in theory you could cash it or deposit it and I suppose it's yours since as you say you bought the box and all contents.
But just because something may be legal doesn't make it right. It would probably be legal for me to offer a low-ball price to a grieving widow for her late husband's gun collection but it wouldn't be right.
Do you want to be legal, or do you want to be right?0 -
+1 The right thing to do is to call the writer, tell them what happened and that you are shredding the check. 0 -
Only good for 6 months any more. 0 -

Would you please give me the phone number of the widow ??
Thanks,
Doug0
