America's Unsung Heroes
To all of you Unsung Heroes out there:
It's great to remember members of the armed forces for whatever reasons, and it's also just as great to remember all of America's unsung heroes like the Moms, Dads, Brothers, Sisters, and Neighbors who have never donned the military uniform for service to our nation, but who have in their hearts a special place for those who have served, or who presently serve, their country. A special place like that of the very old farmer who lived alone in the west and was working the fields, whose eyes misted over, before he hung his head and softly wept, after a lone military man in uniform told him that his only son was killed in action in the NAM. This same activity is, of course, being played out all across our country today by those very special people who are, in fact, America's unsung heroes.
They are the folks who could have very easy jobs, or very demanding ones, who work week in and week out, who might, or might not, have the luxury of being institutionalized in a job/career with all the pay and benefits similar to members of the military. They are individuals from all walks of life who have achieved success and/or failure to varying degrees, for themselves and their loved ones, based upon their own hard work which might constitute a lifetime filled with genuine blood, sweat, and tears. The rich might have inherited their wealth, or they could have earned it, and the poor, or not so well to do, might have worked at countless jobs for their entire lives, maybe sixty or seventy years - think about it - without ever having the luxury of ever knowing what the day would bring until the sun had set. This as to where the next dollar was coming from to pay for food, shelter, or clothing for themselves and their family. This is the real America. These kind of "genuine patriots" represent the Old-Farmer, the Mothers, Fathers, Brothers, and Sisters, and the Neighbors that most of us are fortunate to know. They represent those Americans who are always there for our military personnel whether or not they still wear the uniform. They are a very special breed, they are without a doubt, America's Unsung Heroes.
I am sure I am not alone in how I feel, so here's a big ahOOOOra! to each of you on this Marine Corps Birthday.

They(WE) are not "heroes".
We are just doing what we need to do.
"Heroes" are a whole different thing.

BTW, We tried out your Doug's Classic Seafood Chowder recipe, and it was great. We used shrimp, clams, and crab. It did not last very long. Next time we make it, we'll double the ingredients!0 -
Any American who truly loves this country and serves it in his or her own way through military service, civil service, police, fire, medical, charity and so on is an "unsung hero". This country was built on the strength and determination of all Americans to keep it free. There are those who hate that freedom and will do their best to destroy it both from far away lands and right here on American soil. We must embrace and carry on the fight begun by our forefathers and foremothers to insure that America will always remain strong and hold her head up high in spite of those detractors.
Yes, we are Marines, sailors, soldiers, airmen and "Coasties" - but above all, we are Americans and are proud and honored to have served such a great country and the people we love.0 -

I'm really glad you tried it, and liked it. There are a lot of variations to it, and I don't think I've ever made it the same way twice.
I do some other stuff, also.
