I've been thinking about ways to make our quest to educate our population about the Constitution, and how to reach individuals to help them understand that Document, effective.
While thinking about this subject, it came to me that the country is Balkanized with many different factions with different objectives. So, I'm going to try to define the factions that I'm aware of, and try to figure out how to reach these people with our message.
I ask you to seriously look at this and make suggestions, additions and fresh thinking. I'm not trying to own this, just create a method to slow down or stop the raving ambitions of many people to rescind or ignore the Second Amendment, particularly.
Hopefully, we will be able to reach a solid plan of action that each of us can help with, before it's too late.

I'm gaoing to keep this in a "Word" document, so that I can keep it updated and periodically present it to the Forum as it becomes more complete.

Doug, The problem with people is, right wing, left wing, and those in the middle, that most only care about that part of the Constition that they like. The rest doesn't count or should be changed. If not legally then illegally, or ignore it.
By the way, Native Americans want to be called by the name of our Tribe. If you don't know it then call us Indians. "Native Americans" was started by left wing trouble makers who tried to divide us for their own political purposes.0 -
The way I see it, the Right Wing likes the entire Constitution, whereas the Left Wing doesn't like the 2nd Amendment. 0 -
mcaso - I agree entirely. That's the reason to develope different strategies and tactics to bring each faction into, or close to, the fold.
We always seem to want to do this with brief conversations with individuals who oppose us. What I'm trying to develop is a way to continue the dialog beyond one discussion, and to do it without rancour. When you yell at someone, they quit hearing at once.
Zulu - You are totally corrct. These people didn't develop their positions overnight - we can't expect to change their minds overnight. A cohesive, long term approach tailored to each of these groups is the only way I can see to affect their thinking.

Doug, I share your frustration. I think you are on the right track, we are divided as a country as far as the second amendment is concerned.
The recent post from the gentleman that wanted to start a state by state grass roots movement was noble. But of course GOA and NRA have been trying that for years.
The problem is as I see it is it has become necessary to contact each and every group and cut out the political division stuff and point out to each group how they will lose their personal freedom if they don't support the progun movement.
The recent Zumbo incident proves this fact. Hunters have a different prespective about gun issues than do the military collectors, target shooters and others. Some of them are only looking at the issue through the window of "how does it affect my Hunting rights". They don't care much about military hardware and don't like "black guns" much. Target shooters don't use military rifles that much, they might not care about supporting the sale of more Black Guns.
This is why we get our butts kicked by the smart lawyers in Congress. They know the rule of thumb about "divide and conquer!"
Of course, this is why I have been ranting about "if all gun owners join the NRA or GOA then we will scare the living heck out of Congress, they will then fall in line and protect the second amendment". They could never buck the will of 70 million gunowners.
But it won't work, we are all divided about our personal wants and desires. We fight among ourselves about Dems and Reps and many other issues. We are like children, if we don't get our way we won't play.
The Unions of this country control the lions share of gun owners. Make them toe the line and vote anti-gun candadates into office time and time again. Like lemmings, they do what they are told and their dues go to support and finance the anti-gun candadites. Kennedy, Schumer, Blumberg, Daily, etc.
We need to go directly to the hunters and gun owners in the Unions and tell them its not about politics anymore its about your hunting and gun rights.
Many of the enviormental groups include hunters. We need to tell them its about gun rights folks.
Women are anti-gun as a whole, we need to have women members tell them its about personal self protection for themselves and their children. Expose the false statistics about the deaths of children in the home.
My point, each and every group needs to be contacted, somehow, and told the truth, in a mannor that they will understand. Each group needs to cull out the anti-gun candidates in their party. This has to begin at the grass roots level. Convincing others to put aside their detail issues and to support a big picture plan is difficult.
The NRA mailings don't work. They are by far the largest gun rights group, but with 3 million members its like a flea on a hounds back! Irritating but it won't deter the hound much. TV ads are where its at but you won't get any support from the liberal media no matter how much money you throw at them. The web, maybe, more and more groups are forming and if we could tap into all the gun forums on the net, the hunting forums, the gun parts forums, etc then maybe we pick up some more support.
It would be nice if each group would appoint an individual to join the Gun Rights Forum and report back to the group as a whole the progress and direction of the gun rights forum. Could we use the GOA or NRA as the gun rights group? I don't know. All these ideas are just that, ideas. Forum admin an mods would have to agree to support this type of action.
As a side note. I notice that the Harley forum I attend from time to time are almost all progun and it comes up often. The Ann Coulter forum, it comes up often and they support us also. So how do we link up everyone to get them all on the same page???
We have some very smart members on this forum, people who can lay out an arguement in a mannor that makes me sit back and say to myself; I would give anything to be able to communicate like that guy! Thats the kind of leadership we need to get others to fall in line and join our crusade!! The GOA guy Gottlieb might be the guy to set up a website to start. I don't know much about him but he talks the talk and walks the walk.

Maybe a "Preserve Americas Second Amendment Rights" forum needs to be setup and then invitations need to go out to all other groups/forums to join or send a representative. Subgroups to make suggestions about a path. I don't know anything about this stuff I am just speaking off the top if my head.
I hope one of the bright guys/gals on this forum comes forward and takes this concept to the bank.0 -

not only do they not like the 2nd, they like parts of it that aren't even parts, like "privacy" "substantive due process" and abortion.0 -
Doug, I think maybe you need to add rural and urban to your list.
I find that a majority of people just don't seem to care. Some of these people are seasonal hunters too. You try and discuss this with them and they just don't want to be bothered. I too wish I could come up with a way to get their attention and make them worry. I do feel that people are worn out of organizations using scare tactics to get a point across. They see that stuff, and throw it in the trash, thinking that someone else wants their money.

As long as Northern( of course Houston comes to mind in the South) big cities equate guns with violence the chances of changing their minds remains fairly low. I think that idea of directing the unions to support progun advocates is a great one. The problem there is that the union looks to its members financial needs and usually anti gun advocates of the Democratic Party are far more pro union and their finacial needs than a Republican candidate would be. The only real exception to that rule is Rep John Dingle who while a solid union backer is a staunchly(for a Democrat) pro gun representative. I think the idea of educating women regarding guns certainly has merit. Some of my best shooters in my Youth Program are girls and they do have to break stereotypes....even in the quasi rural area in which I live.Beach 0 -
Thanks for the input. I'll incorporate most of it on the next pass.
I'm going to go have a cup of coffee with Sig232 later today (1:30 PM at Sharis in Newberg, Orygun, anyone else around is welcome to join us), and we will kick this around, some.
Keep the thoughts and ideas coming. Maybe we can accomplish something.
