This is something I've been lusting after for some time, and recently convinced myself was a reasonable investment. What do you think?

The light colored grips are standard, but I thought they were a bit tacky. Now I think maybe I'll put them on.

I picked this up today at the factory, which is in the Olympia area. I ordered it in April, and had to do a bit of whining to get it this soon. Serial is 117, which means you won't see a lot of them listed on GB.

UPDATE: 9/9/07 MVP suggested I post a picture of it with the original grips. This is what It's supposed to look like. I will be keeping it this way.

Two posts in one day!...must be bored. I've been a member for some time (I remember Eric Williams) and read every day, but don't post that often.

    I don't know what it is, but I do like that finish. I couldn't own it because I probably wouldn't care well enough for it. But I think it looks cool.

    It's an Olympic Arms "Westerner", and the finish is from case hardening the metal. The pattern is part of the metal and is random. I fired one at their "customer appreciation day" 2 years ago, and have been talking myself into this since then.

    Congrats on satisfying your lust! It's probably not something you'll carry in a holster, or even use much if you bought it as an investment.

    I like case color hardening, but my experience is that it's a fragile finish and shows wear quicker than blue ... unless the finish is applied by some technique I'm not aware of, and that's completely possible.

    MT 357: The 1911 division of Olympic is known as Schuetzen Pistol Works, formerly they were Safari Arms. Though Oly Arms seems to concentrate on AR style firearms, they produce a variety of 1911s. Their catalog shows a MSRP of $834 for the Westerner. Their 1911 onlt PDF catalog shows $1039.

    Very Nice 1911 Brian.
    That CCH finish should be as durable as they come.

    They are a good bunch of guys at Oly Arms and I always enjoy a trip to their factory.

    i agree with whoever said, guns are for shooting, thats a beautiful gun you have there, and ive never seen that kind of finish.

    I forgot to mention I think the White Stocks would look great on it.
    You should take a pic of the pistol with both sets on it and then post it side by side for a comparison.
    But right now I think the White would be the better of the two choices.

    That is Sweet. You going to let me fondle it? I think it will look good with the white panels on it. I agree, the guys at the factory are a bunch of good guys. Have not been there in a few month, but wil have to make a trip over to see what is new. How many mags came with it?
