how long will a gun last
just got my first gun and been at the range shooting it (alot) lol. was wondering how long will it last and how many bullets can i shoot before it will need repair? will there ever come a time where its no long good and just have to throw it away?

As the guys said- depends on the gun. A quality firearm will outlast you in all likelihood. I am still shooting a 22 revolver made in 1913. Poor quality (CHEEP!) trying to use absolute, total MAX ammo, and failure to maintain.... well, not gonna last as long. Whatcha got? 0 -

yea its a hi-point, i know its not that great of a gun. i was referring to hand guns in general. 0 -
You're best off recycling the Hi-point for scrap steel prices and taking the money you get and putting it towards a 1911. 0 -
If it's anything like my HP, it'll start to chew itself apart after about 200 rounds. And that's with proper cleaning and lubing. 0 -

Barring grotesque misuse, most handguns will last quite a few thousand rounds.
A good way of gauging a handgun's lifespan is to frequent a gun range and see which of their rental guns stick around for a while and which ones are gone after a few weeks or months.0 -

Assuming quality steel (or polymer like glock) and halfway respectable care they can be quite serviceable forever. Might not look pretty, but until you get some structural failure (snapped firing pin), enough wear to become unsafe (revolver timing, headspace on semiauto), or KABOOM due to bad ammo or unsafe specs (see prev.) there's not really anything that can be done to make it not go bang at least once more. Its what happens on that once more (kaboom, etc) that is the scary part.
BTW - consider your hipoint a life lesson, when it gets absolutely terrible/unsafe take it to one of them "trade in" programs - whatever they are giving out will likely be worth more than the hp at that point.0 -

a quality gun will last 20k rounds to a million rounds or so ,

My Ruger MK II was a gift for my 27th birthday, some 21+ years ago.
It has in excess of 30,000 rounds though it. It has cleaned and lubed properly over the years. Replaced the springs in it 6 or 7 years ago....0 -
