School Answering Machine ...
(This is hilarious - no wonder the sensitive and politically correct were offended!)
This is the message that the Pacific Palisades High School (California) staff voted unanimously to record on their school telephone answering machine. This is the actual answering machine message for the school. This came about because they implemented a policy requiring students and parents to be responsible for their children's absences and missing homework. The school and teachers are being sued by parents who want their children's failing grades changed to passing grades - even though those children were absent 15-30 times during the semester and did not complete enough schoolwork to pass their classes.
The outgoing message:
"Hello! You have reached the automated answering service of your school. In order to assist you in connecting to the right staff member, please listen to all the options before making a selection:
* To lie about why your child is absent - Press 1
* To make excuses for why your child did not do his work - Press 2
* To complain about what we do - Press 3
* To swear at staff members - Press 4
* To ask why you didn't get information that was already enclosed in your
newsletter and several flyers mailed to you - Press 5
* If you want us to raise your child - Press 6
* If you want to reach out and touch, slap or hit someone - Press 7
* To request another teacher, for the third time this year - Press 8
* To complain about bus transportation - Press 9
* To complain about school lunches - Press 0
* If you realize this is the real world and your child must be accountable
and responsible for his/her own behavior, class work, homework and that
it's not the teachers' fault for your child's lack of effort:
Hang up and have a nice day!

Unfortunately in this day and age its not all the parents fault public schools have gone WAY WAY down hill the drop out rate is astonishing, and being a dropout myself "I finished via home school" I know a bit about it.
There's lots of reasons but my main reason was I wasn't being challenged, I had a good B+ to A average but missed to much school because I lived in a daycare "my parents run a daycare out of there house" got sick a lot as you can very well imagine, so even though I was getting A's and getting all my homework done I still got in trouble.
This is what they wanted to do.
I would have to sign a contract stating that I wouldn't miss anymore school and not be tardy once more for the rest of the year "about half the year of school was left" if I missed one day or was late once without a doctors written consent I was out on my ass and everything I had done that year would be null and void.
So I told them to shove it up there ass quit school and enrolled in an online school in the state, which actually did challenge me "they were all college level classes" I didn't get as good of grades but I got the work done and graduated before my classmates.
Funniest thing about it, for the month after I quit they kept calling and trying to get me to go back. See they don't get paid if I don't go, sucks for them maybe they will think about trying to teach something there students didn't already know from the year before.
It's not the only reason I quit but it was one of the main reasons, to this day I would do the same now I see the bureaucracy of it, you wonder why the teachers/schools cant afford new lesson plans when the principles and administrators make 20x what the teachers who work 20x as much make...0 -
I dropped out in my Junior year to join the Army. Got my GED a full year before my grad. class. Went on to get my BS. Had a good career.
I don't feel bad about it.
