Auxiliary fuel tank in pickup?
What do you guys think about one of these auxilary fuel tanks to extend the range of your pickup? Sounds like you can hook it right up to your truck to run off of. Saw this in my Northern Tool catalog. I have a 21 gallon tank in my 06 Frontier but 72 gallons would be nice!

Gas in bulk is sold by the tanker load. I do not think you can pull a tanker. Don0 -
I gotta go with the philosophy that the fuel tank should not outlast the bladder.
But with that said my old Chev 4X4 that I used to take to Baja would hold 65 gallons. Mainly because the Pemex stations in Baja were notorious for being out of fuel for several days. And sitting there waiting for the fuel tanker to get there "ma?ana" was not an option.0 -
common usage hereabouts however newer vehicles have return lines, gas tank pressurized, computer link, etc to complicate connection...but can use as stand alone tank, transfer to regular tank, lawnmower, etc, remove when not needed then less to steal, smaller fire at accident...... 0 -
I would hate to roll that with both tanks full[xx(]
I thought these were just for diesel so you could gas up your tractors and such.

- had a fifteen gallon saddle tank in my VW Diesel rabbit- I could go 1100 miles on one fill of around 30 gallons.
You could just siphon it into the main tank when it was empty, and leave the fuel system unmodified.
Makes your vehicle more valuable to steal, and makes it easier to flip over, and makes it a bigger fire if it catches...but I really like it on my VW - I would just drive and drive, till I saw a good price, and then fill 'er up! Made motoring a little cheaper.0 -

just wear a diaper, and keep on trucking
it would be great if you catch the fuel price before it rises, but would also suck if it drops and you just filled up0 -

Or do what some nasty POS truckers do, and piss in an empty 1 gal milk jug, then throw it out the window. Truckers who do that should lose their endorsements, IMHO.0 -
Personaly, I'll never put a tank in the bed again. If your cargo gets lose and slides you've got trouble, the bed drains will spill it on the exhaust.
My old '79 Ford crew cab 4x4 had four tanks. The cab tank, two saddle tanks and another clear out back inside the frame. If I had to fill all of them folks waiting for the pump would scowel and sometimes even curse at me. It took quite a while to pump 50-60 gallons.0 -
i have a 40 gal tank factory issue for my 2000 for diesel pickup also have 105 gal bulk L shaped tank behind cab but use it for taking fuel to tractors and ect out in the fields.....105 is just about a waste of time for me though, as my four wheel drive holds 225 gal other tractors hold 80-115 gal combine holds 140gal or so...think about putting a 560 gal tank on flatbed trailer and take fuel to fields with and just hooking the 105 gal into pickup fuel system. 0 -
The purpose of these, or so I heard from a fiend of a friend, is so that when you fill it up with off road diesel at $1.49 a gallon, there is no controversy at the fillin' station.
If you put the nozzle of off road diesel in your truck filler you'll get scolded but fill up the tank in the bed, well okie dokie.
Then what you do with it when you get home is another story.0 -
These tanks are made for diesel only. DOT would sh@t down both legs if they find out that would had 36-105 gallons of gas. I guess i cant say this for sure but i have sold them in 5 differant states and that is the case in them all 0 -
It already takes $70.00 to fill it up, now I need to take a loan out to fill that up.[:D][:D][:D] 0 -

How much does a gallon of liquid weigh?
Diesel will run from 6.5 to 6.8 pounds per gallon0 -
Personally I would love to carry about 100 gallons of gas.
100 gallons would last me almost 2 months unlees I take a trip and then I could pick and choose were I filled up to get the best prices.
As far a legalities. If memory serves me right I believe you can carry up to 119 gallons without placards or permits.0 -
...In my trucks I like the 20 gallon saddle tanks under the fender wells of each of my rear wheels...dont loose any bed space.
...In my Suburban I have 45 gallon main tank so no need for an auxillary tank...I fill it up and I can go almost 50 miles before re-filling...[:D]...not really, 350 V-Tec that is a GREAT engine and I get about 14 in town, about 16 or so hwy.
...For the skittish, remember that a gallon of gas when it explodes is about the equivelant of 7 sticks of dynomite...[:D]

7.0 lbs/gl to be precise. Gasoline weighs 6.2 lbs/gl. Fresh water weighs 8.0 lbs/gl, and salt water is approximately 8.3 lbs/gl (salinity varies with temperature, which will cause a variance in the weight).0 -

Yep... the 40 gallon tank in my 1-ton diesel truck is more than plenty enough. If I am running empty down the highway, I can get better than 800+ miles between fill-ups... too dang far for my bladder[:0].0
