Q. for farmers south of Kansas City

[?][?][?]Can anyone tell me what the plant is that is sort of lavender/light pinkish purple growing in fields along Hwy. 71 south of Kansas City? It appears to be blooming and is quite close to the ground. The guy with whom I went to Tulsa insisted it is clover, but I've never seen clover that short and blooming at the same time. I grew up on a farm but haven't seen anything that looked like this plant. A cover crop? Green manure? Can you hlep?[?][?][?]

  Could it be trefoil? I assume you are talking about a crop, not a roadside weed.

  It's clover. Whole farm is covered in it right now. Cows don't know what to do.[;)][:D]

  Its a weed of sort. I think jnmiller75 has the right name.Early in spring after you work the ground 1 time its gone(til next yr).Sure wished it was clover.

  If a weed, henbit is likely this early. common on disrupted ground.

  What he saw along 71 is henbit. It's gone crazy with all the rain and the warm days.

  "Henbit" sounds like it. I Googled some pictures. Thanks for the info, guys.
  
  (Actually, I Googled "henbit" to make sure I wasn't falling for a variation on the "What's a hen-weigh?" joke.[:D])
