    Boy, there really isn't anything more discouraging than trying to help someone, only to be critized for your efforts. While browsing the listings in my area of interest and expertise, I came across an antique blank pistol being offered as an actual firearm (more specific, a derringer). When I courteously advised the seller of what he had (a "Gem Celebration Pistol"), he disregarded my warning and basically indicated tough luck for the winning bidder because they have to sign a "not to be fired" release. * For all my fellow legal beagles out there, please remember that liability laws vary from state to state. Because he is misrepresenting it as a firearm, a liability release will do absolutely nothing in the event his winning bidder is injured by shooting a live cartridge from it. I guess this just confirms that some people can't be saved from themselves.[B)]

    A quick follow-up.......

    It appears that the unscroupulous seller mentioned above wised-up and ended the auction (before his rear end was "caught in the wringer"). I guess he took my suggestion to heart? Too bad he was lacking in courtesy and didn't have it in him to simply say "thanks for your help". There is another more responsible seller that is also offering a Gem blank pistol and he has appropriately disclosed that it is not a firearm. Don't confuse the two sellers though, as the responsible one is intelligent and has dignity (unlike the other, which lacks intelligence and dignity).[^]

    No seller likes to be told he's an idiot by having no clue what he's selling.

    As a rule, I don't bother with them.

    Lots of times guys will comment here about just the same thing. They try to help educate a seller and get no response or worse get a angry one.

    I personally don't care to be told I wrong or stupid, not because someone is telling me that, but because I hate being wrong.

    I would keep trying to help others some time someone will say thank you and it will all be worth it and you will forget all the AH's.

    Thanks for the positive reinforcement "Smokeeater 38". I really appreciate it. I'm also a seller here on GB and I agree with you 100%. If I'm incorrect in my description, I would humbly thank someone for pointing me in the right direction. Fortunately, most of the sellers that I communicate with on matters such as this are in fact, quite greatful. Thanks again![:D]

    Hobby- I hear ya. In the past have sent polite email to sellers of JC Higgins 12 g bolt action that has been on a safety recall for years- non-fixable design flaw. Have had some folks that say thanks, and cancel the auction. Have others that have given rude, obscene, and anatomically impossible reponse. (1) Some folks do not understand just how bad a competent attorney will chew them up for KNOWINGLY exposing a buyer to injury. (2) I quietly put them on my "Never buy ANYTHING from THIS bozo" list. (3) Was it Ron White that said "You can't fix stupid!" ?

    Hey 11b6r, Was that recall just on the 12's or was it for the 16 g bolt actions also. My freinds father has one of them . (Sorry to hi- jack your post Hobby guy, I'd just hate to see the old man get hurt.)
