Diesel additives
Who in here uses additives in there diesels? If so what do you uses and why. If you had to choose between Diesel Kleen and Mystery oil what you use? I've been using Diesel Kleen in my Cummins, but have heard that Mystery oil is better, is this true?

Here in the Pacific Northwest (and possibly most of the west states), diesel powered trucks retain a higher % of their initial purchase price than the gas powered trucks do. It is most likely a regional phenomenon though, and I believe it is a result of the perceived fact that the diesel powered trucks are much more capable, and they will last longer than the gas powered trucks.0 -
I agree about the regional data. This was taken off the east coast area. One thing I did fail to mention. The $6000 difference basically in price Diesel to gas. One can take the $6000 and at only 5% draw $300 a year interest off of it. Compound it for 5 years and get $1657. 0 -

I have a Ford Powerstroke, traded a Dodge gasser on it and other than the map lights in the front overhead I do not miss that truck one bit. For me the figures for truck maintenance from my experiances is with the Dodge every 15K miles replace tranny, every 30K miles rebuild frontend. Dodge has a bad reputation that will keep me from every ever ever buying another Dodge as long as I live. Mine was on it's third tranny and second frontend with 60K miles at tradein time. I know some of you have had good luck with Dodges but my experiance is not good and with all the complaints about Dodge trannies and differential problems to me buying a Dodge and getting 100,000 miles with no problems is a crap shoot. I went back to Ford trucks and cannot be happier, after owning this diesel I will never own another gasser. Not just for the fuel savings (22MPG compared to 14MPG in the Dodge) but having twice the power and three times the torque while getting that good fuel milage is the reason I will never own another gas truck. I also went with a standard tranny and that to me makes the power easier to use and a clutch is far cheaper than a Dodge throwaway tranny.

If you had owned a Dodge with a manual transmission, you would not have had any problems. Likewise, if it had been a Ford with an auto-transmission, you would be swearing at it to (Ford is notorious for auto transmission problems in their SUVs and full size trucks).
I have stated this many times before... never never buy a 3/4-ton or a 1-ton truck (regardless of who makes it) with an automatic transmission... unless you are simply the type of personal who enjoys dealing with broken down vehicles and likes to spend extra $$$$ on them[xx(][V]. I will always own a diesel, and one with a 6-speed manual overdrive transmission[^]0
