Indeed. Sequel to 28 days later.0 -

Saw it the first weekend. In a nutshell:
- Not as aggravatingly stupid as the first one.
- Military portrayed as more humane and human (yes, even with Code Red).
- Thought provoking, as in, "Would it really be that easy?" I've been thinking that in a situation like that, you'd need four strong walls, a metal door, a goood rifle, and a good handgun. Food helps, but given how easy it seemed to avoid them at times, it would be child's play to just dash on over to the local Quickie Mart and pick up supplies.
- Ending: pretty funny. Without spoiling naything, if you've read any of the comics, you'd know that the French of all people would have nothing to fear from Rage victims.[;)]
All in all, I enjoyed despite its many failings mainly because it was fun to discuss all the what if's.0 -

As for the first one, I'm assuming you're "aggravatingly stupid" comment refers to how the military is portrayed?
I'm not so sure I agree with you on the whole "easy to avoid them" thing. They're fast and extremely aggressive, with full human physical capabilities and driven by blind rage. Pretty dangerous if you ask me and the movies never portrayed them as simple to escape. But good walls a solid door, a good rifle lots of ammo and plenty of supplies I'd agree with. Scavenging runs would eventually be necessary to be sure.
As to the ending, I think the French would have the most to fear from teh Rage Virus. It was developed in chimps after all.[;)]0 -

Indeed. I didn't care for how the military was portrayed in 28 Days Later as, more or less, "the bad men with guns." I mean, a few days without female companionship and they were about to plunge to the depths portrayed in the movie? To hell with that. Nothing more than typical pacifist hippy BS nonsense.

However, the good news is: no head shots needed![:D]
And while dangerous, there were a few stretches there when the streets were fairly free of infestation. It seems to me that if you're able to keep your cool and keep your head down, you'd be able to get by.
A good mix of guns in a group well-versed in the use of firearms would be able to survivve, even on the move.
I've been mulling it over and I think the following breakdown would work just fine:
1-2 long range rifles, preferably semiatuo (AR-15, FAL, M1A, etc.)
2-3 medium- to short range guns (AK-47, SKS, shotguns, or pistol-caliber carbine like the Beretta CX4 or H&K UMP, MP5, etc.)
and
4-6 handguns. Revolvers would be useful for when inside a car since there would be no flying brass to worry about, but otherwise a good, larger caliber semiauto would be preferable. Sigs, H&Ks, and any quality 1911 would suffice.
That means a group of 4-6 armed individuals. I would not recommend too many unarmed hangers-on, but neither would I turn them away.
I'm still trying to decide what hand-to-hand implements would be the most useful to carry. The movies seem to enjoy tire irons and crowbars, but I'm not sure I agree with those.[;)]0 -

strangely enough, almost my sentiments exactly in terms of arms, caliber, and breakdown.
However, I think the crowbars and tire irons would be close to ideal for arm's length combat. They're tough and indestructible and hard and heavy enough to do real damage real quick. Blades need to be sharpened and can break a lot easier than many think. Give me a good length of iron or steel any day.0 -
nemesis,
I agree with your summation of blades, but not sure I'm sold on crow bars or tire irons. They seem a little unbalanced and maybe a little too heavy?
Baseball bats (wooden ones) could break - not sure how likely that is, but they could. Aluminum ones seem too light if you're not a major league ball player... and I'm nowhere near being a major league ball player.
I'll have to give this one some more thought...0 -

Mabey a good Ka-Bar0 -
I'm thinking of something with a little more crushing power since most of these zombies don't seem to care if they're cut (unless you decapitate them). Maybe a hefty length of pipe? I know it's not horribly sophisticated, but it's easy to get, easy to replace, and is balanced so long as you cut it to the right length. 0 -
I thought it was good, but it would probably be much less entertaining if you haven't seen the previous one, 28 days later - which was also pretty good. They are horror movies but without the anxiety, and the jumping out at you constantly. It's more real-life, like 'Parts of this could actually be possible.' Maybe not worth going to the theater unless you've got cash to blow, but definately worth seeing. 0 -

I'd bring along 1 or 2 ASP batons for close combat. If not those than a ninja sword, which is not too long to get in the way, but yet small and able to cut. They are usually very sharp, if a blade is needed. I would prefer the batons in this case, but in the case of real zombies I would go with the sword, because of their heads needing to be cut off.0 -
Not to highjack your thread but I figured due to your signature.... you'd appreciate this.[;)][^]
