I always thought "a card layed is a card played". He should have eaten the $20.00.

a dealer did that with me on a car, tried getting me for 500 more, i walked away he followed me, I ended up paying the first negoitated price

To your story 20 bucks could have been tax or something like that, I would get your panties in a bind, especially if he was genuine.

    They're not really in a bind...perhaps just riding up a bit.[:0]

Actually, I was going to pay tax on the (original) price we had agreed on, and paid it on the second, as well...so, basically, my trade got devalued by $20. Not much (which is why I went through with it...$50 (which he started out at) and it would've been no deal), but it's the principal of the thing.

And it's too damned nasty outside to go out and shoot my new "toy" as well...I know that would make me feel better!

Bust a deal, face the wheel.

    Two men enter.....one man leaves.

If you are happy with the gun and the price is still acceptable I would forget about it and have fun shooting the new toy. $20 is not worth working up a mad over.[:0][:0]

If you were likely to see him again then he should have give you the first price and keep you happy. If he guessed that he would never see you again then I can see not wanting to loss $20.

If you still got a good deal at the +$20, then be happy. [^]

The deal was done when you started filling out the paperwork. It was the dealers mistake. HE is the one that should have to live with it.

I did a trade with a kid and his dad for a new .17HMR Henry Golden Boy. I worked with the kid because I wanted him to have the Golden Boy and he could only come up with a certain amount. I did some figuring and gave him the numbers and we agreed. I didn't have the rifle in stock and had to order it for him. After I got it in I did some figuring on it again and realized I gave him a better deal than what I though. In fact it was like $10 below dealer cost. There is no way that I can change the deal so I ate the loss. Win or lose, a deal is a deal. That's how I do business.

yeah but you got a new xcustomer. and not just any customer. one at the very beggining of his habit. it can only go up from there...

i agree that the dealer should have eaten the mistake. i also agree that 20 bucks isnt nearly of enough concer if you liked the deal before it. live and learn....

Dealer is a scumbag, and NOT a man of his word. He just ripped you off for an extra $20......it was NOT a mistake.

If you are in business, you KNOW what you paid for something. Period.

It is called " A mans' word "....and it means little in todays world.

A deal is a deal. That there what you dealt with ain't no man.

As many have said - he made the mistake, he should live with it.

"If he, being young and unskillful,
plays for sheckels of silver and gold,
Take his money, my son, praising Allah-
The fool was made to be sold."

$20 is not worth getting severely torqued up about- but HIS mistake= HIS loss.

Well, I see it both ways, and both ways honorable.

You made a deal with him, and have every right to expect him to follow through. If there was a mistake, it was his problem, and not yours.

Now, he could say, "I made a mistake, but it's my mistake, so I'll eat the loss", or "I made a mistake, I can't do this deal. I'm sorry".

You all took the third option, which is just as fair, you re-negotiated.

The guy is in business, and has every right to make a buck. He made a mistake, and told you about it, and tried to see if he could un-do it. As far as BS reasons to undo a deal, "i made a mistake" is about as honest as I think it gets. If he added wrong, had the wrong gun in mind, who knows (you didn't say). The fact is, he told you, and tried to fix the mistake.

If the guy was selling Patton's colt, and thought it was only a reproduction, would YOU have told HIM? Food for thought...

If you had walked away, he would have called you back. He was about to get stuck with the cost of a NICS check if you didn't buy. Some states it's only a couple of bucks and others is more. He stiffed ya. I would have walked away.
