Washington State record deer with a .25-20?
Before my grandfather died, he told me at that for awhile, the Washington State (where he lived) deer record was taken with a .25-20. He told me this one day while I was looking at his Winchester .25-20. Now a .25-20 is not large at all. Anybody know if this is true?

I don't know that it's true but would have no reason to doubt it either.
Thousands of deer have succumbed to a .22 lr. behind the foreleg.
Any well placed 85 gr. broadhead will kill any deer or elk that walks if you take out the lungs.0 -

The 25-35 W.C.F. is quite some bit more potent than the diminutive 25-20 W.C.F.
For those who are not aware, the 25-20 W.C.F. is nothing more than the 32 W.C.F. (a.k.a. 32-20) necked down to .25 caliber. The 25-20 W.C.F. is the basis for the 218 Bee. The 32 W.C.F. and 25-20 W.C.F. cartridges were chambered in the Model 1892 (and its variants).
The 25-35 W.C.F. is a much larger cartridge. It was developed conjunctively with the 30 W.C.F. (30-30). Both cartridges share the same basic case, and were specifically developed for the Model 1894. The 25-35 W.C.F. pushes a 117 grain bullet 2200+ fps.0 -

The 25-20 cartridge you are referring to is not the same as the 25-20 W.C.F. The 25-20 Single Shot (25-20 S.S.) was used by Stevens as a target cartridge in their 44-1/2 series single shot rifles, but it was not one of their proprietary cartridges. Winchester was actually the first major manufacturer to adopt it, and they made more than 7,200 Model 1885 Single Shot rifles chambered for it. The 25-20 S.S. was originally a wildcat cartridge invented circa 1882. Winchester adopted it circa 1890.0
