I had no idea that the state of New York had a handgun registration law already on the books and that all owners were registered. Thats totally Unconstitutional, why the heck doen't someone take this to the Supreme Court???
Should be enough wealthy folks in New York state to attack that practice.0 -
Yes - every legal handgun must be registered with the sheriffs department in the county they live in. There are no handguns allowed in the 5 counties of NY City - (I am sure there are a few exceptions).
Why doesn't someone take it to the Supreme Court ? I will if you back me financially.0 -
what's new about registering handguns?
in omahaha, you have to get approval (and sneered at, I was) from the sherif before you can buy one, then when you buy one, you have to take it to the cop shop, where they take it away for an hour or so for "testing". they don't tell you what kind of "testing" they are doing or why it takes so long (besides maybe they're just lazy).
been doing that for years in that county.0 -

Does the above in red mean that the violent criminals don't have handguns either? Or is it just the lawful citizens who go without handguns? (note: merely sarcasm not aimed at you nyforester)0 -
Hey tr fox
No offence taken.
I guess I should have said Legal Handguns. You and I both know there are plenty in NY City. I will bet there are no crack dealers, hookers, or gambling in the city either. Mayor Bloomberg is doing a wonderful job.....Ha Ha [xx(][xx(][xx(]0 -
I feel that it is safe to say , That the pistol permits are issued by the Counties "Sheriffs Dept".Regestered in ALBANY with the NYSP. This system works satisfactorily.
The Dutchess County Sheriffs dept. Under, SHERIFF Butch Anderson functions very well especially in the Pistol Permit Dept.
Most local police chiefs are loose cannons.
Years ago we had one Police chief Martin in Poughkeepsie that was the sole issuer for pistol permit applications. Every one he issued went through a special process...you had to get a lawyer and sue for a application in court...then after all that bull he would deny the application after you submitted it. Some people that did get one spent well over a thousand dollars and this is 1964.
I believe there are places where the Police Chief is a- ok ..I don't believe NY is one of them.
With inflation that's my 7 ? cents worth0 -

Mr. LeBrun,
I read your article with mixed emotions.
As you stated, LEGALLY owned guns do not show up being used in crimes, law abideing citizens are for the most part very careful in how or even IF they use a weapon as they are quite aware of the consequences.
THEY are made out to be criminal by the media as well as family of the criminal they were defending themselves against!
In reguards to the campaign by Mayor Bloomberg, very few dealers can be found in any state who do not follow federal guidelines in the sale and disposition of weapons. Why? Check the penalties involved!
Most handguns used in crimes are aquired dureing burgleries.
Entire locked reinforced steel gun safes are pried from their mountings and carried away to be jack-hammered or torched apart at the criminals liesure.
And even though this is about as secure a storage practice you can have, I know of at least 4 instances in the past year in different states.
The so called "assault weapons ban" is a farce as well.
There is NO actual assault weapon available to the general public, and you will find very few cases of their being used in crimes because they are not readily concealable like a small handgun!
All the weapons on "the list" are one shot per trigger pulllike many common hunting rifles, with the only difference being they are COSMETICALLY different.
Some protest because they have "high capacity" magazines, will we next have gestapo like raids on owners households to insure they do not own "too many" smaller capacity magazines that could add up to the same number of shells?
Too many laws are already on the books, creating only opportunity to ensnare law abideing owners and turn them INTO criminals, as the criminals could care less if they are breaking yet one more law in their career.
Enforece the laws already on the books as pertains to the criminal element, instead of creating a deeper pit to swallow the honest gun owners.
And remember that "registration" for the purpose of "crime control" in one way or another was the first step in nearly every fascist rulers agenda, and those lists are what enabled Hittler to confiscate every possible threat from the populace when he declared himself dictater.0 -
I hope you used a spell checker and that the letter itself didn't look like the one you copied and pasted.
Those elitist gun grabbers read a letter like that one and think to themselves,"What atrocious spelling, and why do those redneck, trailer trash types CARE so much about guns while neglecting their educations?"
The truth of the matter is that Bloomberg, et al, could care less about what you think, or how inconvenient it may be to have to travel to another state to purchase your firearms, or how passionate you may be about the 2nd Amendment, or in fact, that citizens anywhere are allowed to possess guns of any sort.
Michigan has some pretty stupid laws, as do many other East- and West-coast states; it's all designed to keep citizens under the thumbs of local yokel LEOs who derive a sense of power by denying you the right and means to defend yourselves from the very criminals THEY won't arrest.
If their plan makes no sense to you; vote differently!0 -
