Is he your boyfriend or your owner? Do what YOU want and if he "decides you can't have it", you can make the same decision about HIM! [:(!]

Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I go what it takes
She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong,
play the song with the funky break"

And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather charts to see
    if it was safe outside
And little Early-birdy came by in his curly-wurly and asked me
    if I needed a ride[:D]

"I'm only worried about you getting hurt" is the lame excuse to control you that supports weak arguments against you doing what you need to.

Also, are you wanting a drag strip bike, or a road rocket?? They aren't the same thing, as you well know. The only advantage big twins have is that they ride nice on straight stretches.

I've had big bikes and I've had smaller bikes, and I get a rush from the hair-trigger handling response and acceleration of scooters in the 500 to 750 range.

But do whatever turns your crank. GET A BIKE.

Tell your boyfriend to "let those who ride decide" - you being the one who rides.

Traci, you are only young once. Don't grow up with a bunch of regrets about what you "coulda, shoulda, woulda" done, if only...

You never know when the Lord is going to take you home. Don't let the last words on your lips in thes world be: "if only...".

There is something to be said about a SPOUCE'S opinion on matters like this...but you don't even have a ring on your finger yet. Enjoy your youth...just do so sensibly.[:)]

Depends if says no because he don't want you to get killed or if he wants to a bast--d. My wife says i can't have one but she's not a controlling bizznitch so i listened to her.

Although, as a married couple we comprimised. She realized i need to jam on something and i realized she don't want to burry me so we both settled for a DIRTBIKE. I can rip acrossed the property and never get on the street. Good Luck!

I meant the two wheeled type of ride, not including paraplegics confined to wheelchairs.

I have a motorcycle thought I would like it didn't because I saw how damn dangerous it could be, but don't let me some random jerk on the forums control your life, do whatever makes you feel good.

Just don't expect anyone else to feel the same, and don't be surprised if he leaves you if you get a bike, he may not be interested in getting in a relationship with someone who may be embedded in a tree beside the highway in a few months/years.

I am not against anyone having a motorcycle, if that's what you love then do it, just don't expect me to think the same, I probably wouldn't want my girlfriend to have a bike aether just because I would worry about her to much, of course if I was really in love I doubt that would keep me from being with her but if I don't know I'm in love I don't know if I would want to stick around if she was riding one.

And the only way I could go about not worrying about it is setting my mind to not caring if they die, which is a bit hard in that type of situation.

Let me put that not caring if they die thing in context. That's how I feel about my one cat, he enjoys the outdoors my other cat stays inside for the most part but I couldn't keep him from going out, I finally gave in and just decided that I wouldn't worry about it and that if he did get hit by a car or eaten by something I would know he had a good quality of life and he was happy before he died, If I was him I wouldn't want to be stuck in the house all the time aether.

Not that I wouldn't be sad if he died I most assuredly would, I am just not going to worry about it now.

Thanks for all the great replys. I can really see both sides of the argument. We've talked about it some more. It's really not a control issue. He's never put his foot down before. Well he has said I can't get a dirt bike either. It's funny atv's are more dangerous than dirt bikes. You can lay a dirt bike down if your going up a hill and can't make it.
He doesn't like me on atv's either, but he just deals with it. I've had a few wreaks some since we've been together. He doesn't ride with me because he says I'm a "crazy" rider and doesnt want to witness this.
After watching my cousins and mom he's even more afraid I will get hurt. He didn't like the fact they we're taking high speed turns. Sometimes 3 wides and not crosssing the yellow, so they were very close. He also scared him that most of the turns their knee would actually touch the ground. I don't know why that would bother him, but it did.
All this combine with the fact a few of my family have died on bikes. This worries him. He's afraid I'm going to be next in the ground. Anyone who lives in the area will know the Thornton name when it comes to motorcyles and racing.
So that's where we stand. I'm going to get a bike anyway this summer. He'll deal with it. I'm may not get a big bike, but I will get one. I do want a stonger staight line bike, but not a drag bike. I'm thinking Hayabusa. I do like my mom's Ducati, but I don't know about the money for one.

Sounds like you and the rest of your family have your minds made up to join your deceased relatives in the "Happy Hunting Grounds!! I hope I don't meet any of your klan on the road while I'm crusin and having a good time. If you want to drive like IDIOTS keep it on the race track and not where you'll hurt, maime or kill some unfortunate person!!

Although it sounds like your boyfriend cares about you , trying to control you is a bad idea . He sould voice his concern , offer an opinion , but quote:My boyfriend sees this and decides I can't get a bike cause he thinks I'll get hurt. to lay down the law with you is just wrong .

Fast way to lose a woman .

(Works the same way with a man).

The last wreck my mom was in, was a drunk driver in a car that crossed the yellow line around a curve and hit her and her friend head on. The time before that a girl in a suv was messing her radio and wonder over int the passing lane where my mom happen to be and tapped her. She almost lost it at 70 on the interstate. Sad truth is most of the crash in my family are drivers in cars who just didn't see the motorcycle.
The last two family members that were kill were not on the road, but a track. That was over 12 years ago.
If your going to ride your going to face more dangers than a car regardless of how you ride. Its just a fact. But never has anyone in my family ever been ticketed or cited for dangerous riding or speeding, not saying they never have.

You said it yourself in your initial post-- "My mom, step dad and cousins on the other had were trying to out do one another." "They were getting very crazy." "They are just plain crazy." Their riding habits WILL catch up with them some day and it won't make any difference if it's someone elses fault or not they'll still be DEAD!!! If you're riding within your limits, the bikes, allow plenty of reaction time, (which you don't have when you're doing 100+) and you drive like every cage is out to get you, then you'll probably stay alive even if you do go down but ride like an IDIOT and you're sure to DIE!! I just hope they don't take an innocent bystander with them when they go screaming off the road!!

If you want safety, live inside a cotton ball and never leave your house.

If you live life you will take risks that may kill you.

I've taken lots ofrisks in my sordid life and I'm still around. If the next risk I take kills me, let it be said that I lived my life to the fullest.

Find a way to buy the Duck. You will NEVER regret that thrill ride!!

I agree 100%! After all, we all have guns, don't we? A lot of people are afraid of guns or people who have them. We understand the risks of having them but does that stop us? No, because we're careful, responsible adults. Unfortunately, accidents do happen sometimes but those are the risks we accept. Like Doug says, life itself is a risk. Enjoy it for what it is today because none of us knows if tomorrow will ever come.
