My Latest Pony...and HELP If You will :)
...Just happened to be passing thru Wolfe City a couple of weeks ago, and found this just laying around in Nunn's shop, said it wasn't his ([8D]), so I brought it home...finders keepers loosers weepers...SOOOO smooth, it scared me, I think know it's a keeper...[:D]...so lets don't tell David, lets just keep it between ya'll and me...deal?...[;)]
Haven't called Colt yet to check date of manf, me thinks 95. Serial indicates it's 256 of 300 made MFR256...BUT, if any of ya'll know ANY info on it please tell me. Pretty please with Hoppes on top.
Info is hard to come by on this gun! What info I can find contridicts OTHER info I find! Like...McCormick parts, but built by Lew (Horton) which makes NO sense to me! Colt Custom Shop gun.Fire control (internal) parts "susposedly" on par with the materials Bromn uses in their "hardgcore" parts...now all this was gleaned from froums, blogs etc.hence the my "Im not freakin sure what is fact"...so please correct anything Ive stated that may not be right.
I HATE not knowing EVERYTHING about a gun I own, especially one of my Colts.
Trigger feels like around 4lbs. Slide to frame fit is exceptional but not "too" tight", just smooth as butter. Slide serrations and edges seem to have recieved the melt treatment. Only thing missing is the box sleeve from the Custom shop, has the rest of the "stuff" hang tag etc.
...Colt McCormick Factory Racer Government/Bright Hard Chrome...(had to get the pic in the shade as the damn thing is so bright the pics just wouldn't work worth a hoot).

dang Richard your a lucky dog [:D][:D]
how did you come out on that deal that you got off the gb side

Looks like a Horton design with McCormick parts put together on a Colt Custom Shop 1911. That would about cover it, though there is some dispute as to the bobbed grip frame being a Horton or Brown idea. Personally I think that is one beauty of a 45. I'd be much more interested in it's future than it's past. 0 -
As my dear old departed pappy would say..."Smooth as a cats a**". [:)][:)]

Clay paitence...and I devote at LEAST 1 hr a day to looking at Colts. There are some really good deals to be had if you are persistant. Hell...I found one at 2am with a "buy now" on it that was conservetivly $150+ less than a comparable one, of course my little boney finger hit the buy now [8D]
Well, YOU know the story behind this one, wont get into that here [:D]
I check constantly too, to keep up on prices, as you know, around here the fools are way too proud of 'em!
Honestly, this thing is SO smooth in all areas...I love it. I may look for a flat matching MSH for it, so I can ditch the arched MSH and ext MW too. Of course Ill bag and tag the original parts. Then again I don't know, Im not going to shoot this one that much.
Ive shot GC's that are not as accurate or as smooth as this one! Like I said, this thing amazed me, when they built this, they done good! I know they made a MFR Commander, not sure if they made an Officer too, think they did.

BDJ I only buy Colts, NEVER sell them...this and the others are in good hands as long as Im alive...and thank you! Yeah, the Horton input with McCormick parts, built in the Custom shop...has me confused! (easily done),and now that you mention Brown, I think I read something about Brown being in the mix too, someway/how...[;)]

I much prefer the flat main spring housing too, but for looks on a "melted and bobbed" grip frame the arched main spring housing just adds to the overall curviness. I would loose that rear sight for a snag free Bomar and use a gun like that as my dress up carry piece. I am a big Colt fan too and though I have probably a dozen or so 1911's,1911A1's and 1991A1's I am a sucker for the SAA's and even the more modern wheelguns on occasion. Having said that, I would still about break my arm getting my wallet out if I came across a piece like that. 0 -
Parts gun..and I suspect most the parts to be stolen.
The pinkerton got ya on a property room tagged gun.
Sorry for your loss.0
