Is there any restrictions on asking to have your name put in on a giveaway?

Only if the giver sets it that way.

Rules are made by each giver awayer. There is no global rule governing them.

and when one does do a givaway, do they just write down all the names on a post and litteraly put them in a hat?
    Just curious.
and yes if I do have a few cool things for givaways, but interested in finding out how they work first..
    thanks

Whatever you choose,.........I have cut slips of paper, and picked a slip.
Also I have used a number generator, to pick a random number, and write down the entries in order.
It is ALL up to the "giver".

When and IF you decide you want to do a give away, there are a few things or rules to follow...

    1) YOU decide what you are giving away...Can be small, large,
expensive, cheap, homemade, store bought or something you
found on the street...In other words, what ever you want

    2) YOU set the rules...You are the one giving the item away,..
so you set your own rules..

    3) YOU decide when you want to do the giveaway, be it 100 posts
500 posts or none at all

    4) YOU do NOT have to giveaway anything to belong to this forum...
Its something that some of us just do...

When we do a give away, we print out all the names, cut
them into slips, crumple them up, put them in a bowl and let the
cat draw out a name...the first one she takes out of the bowl is
    the winner...

    cool thanks for the info.
I do have a few things that someone might want.
    firearms mostly.
Need to make sure I have all the details on how to give those away first!
and then in a while maybe pass them out.

I was thinking more in terms of how do you get the winner his prize, legally?
Like, sending from my dealer to there dealer, makeing sure the firearm is going where its supposed to go[:)]
If i get all the info I need iv got two nice shotguns and one nice pistol I dont want. but I need to get all info on how this transaction takes place and I dont plan on given em away till maybe 1000 posts. for the first one[8D]

well one at a time, not all three together.
and I need to make sure I know how to legally get the winner there prize.
And as far as generous NO [8D]
There just things better off someplace where someone will use them.[:)]

just make sure you transfer through a licensed dealer so they are out of your name and into theirs, then the dealer can transfer to who wins in hatever area their from

you could post them on this site on the auction side and let the boys bid on them too if you wanted. that would make you some cash[;)][8D]

I have given 2 guns away here on the forum and it works just like a sale.

You first recieve a copy of the winners FFL and then you send it to the FFL and let him do the transfer.

    Piece of cake![;)]

I dont think you have to have your count up unless the donator, ask for it to be

and if you dont hang out you wont be elligible any way, so
hang out bs, the likely hood of you gettin in on a givaway is super high, the likely ness of you winning is same as a scratch ticket my man,
take it from me, IM a fing noob!
the company here is better than a prize!!!!!
    hope you stik around [8D]

    BrotherPatriot,
The main reason folks set post limits on who can enter giveaways it simply because they want to feel their giveaway when to someone who is an active participant in the GB "family". Not just someone who signed up for the giveaway. I've seen it before when there was a NICE giveaway with no post limits, a ton of new names with 1 post entering.[;)] Not everyone sets limits though. Stick around there are some good folks here.

    divebomb,
MANY people have given away firearms on this forum.
A sample of a firearm giveaway, with my "rules" can be seen here.

I make a numbered list of participants and use a random number generator.

    Welcome to GunBroker, brotherpatriot.

I have made several giveaways at GB; from books, to rifle stocks, to pistol holsters, to revolver grips. I've even added several cans of super premium Puerto Rican coffee as bonus.

I usually have as a rule "at least 100 posts". The number or frequency of posts is not quite a consideration. I just prefer to award the prize to an active poster whom has been a forum member for some period of time.

Once again, welcome to the jungle my friend.
