what is the perpose of a flutted barrel

    I don't know but they look cool.
    I have heard they are supposed to dissipate heat.

    Might not be more accurate but it has more surface area to dissapate heat and because some metal has been removed, it makes the barrel lighter.

    since a nice solid bull bbl keeps the bbl from flexing (harmonics) when fired, bull bbls are prefered over all others. but, they are heavy, so by fluting them, they cut down the weight but retain the strength to keep from flexing, which throws off accuracy.
