This doesn't sound right to me.
I have read from two sources (Click and Clack, and Esurance) that it is better to shut off your motor even if you are only going to be stopped for a few seconds.
To me, it places unneeded stress on many components, mostly the starter.
For the ultrasmall amount of fuel you would save and emissions reduced, how much is offset by having to replace the starter more often? How much energy is expended to rebuild or manufacture a new starter.
To me it sounds like a stupid "feelgood" policy.

Their forced laughing is irritating.
A better system for traffic jams, that wont kill your battery from repeated startups, might be conversion of large engines to run on fewer cylinders during slowdowns.0 -
