My sister need suggestions for a motorcycle.
Well, she started shopping today for a ride. She went to the place I got the scooter, but they just managed to piss her off. It seems every place talks down to her since she's a female.
Her problem seems to be her height: 5' 4". Her legs are very long, so I'm hoping for some suggestions and/or information about bikes for shorter riders. She rode my scooter pretty well, and did great with the Kawasaki 125 at the class. The scooter is set up a little different with the step-through design. But, I'm lost when it comes to motorcycles for short people since I'm six foot.

Hey man you have to forgive and forget and you cant argue the facts. The japanese do make the best motorcycle for the price.Hell they might make the best period but BMW makes some strong bikes if you have about 20,000.00.
hey you don't have to tell me that, im a yamaha guy.
if we would make a product and stand behind it like they do. i wouldn't buy anything japanese.
you are correct facts are facts and they do make some very reliable equipment.0 -

Why settle for any imitations?
Tell her to get a Harley 883 Sportster!
They are small enuff for her to handle and will retain thier value!
The Sportster is a poor beginer bike. Especially for a short person. They have the highest seat heights of all the Harleys-though they are making some short model nows. They are more of a performance bike than a cruiser.0 -

+1 They're overly heavy for their size and the clutch on the big bore twins can be tricky for a novice rider.0 -

keep it under 400cc.
think USED and save your bankbook.
I know a guy with a 400cc Yamaha for sale...maybe. I might be able to get it for $500. I'm just worried about it breaking down on her. She's not as mechanically inclined as I.
Aspen, there's a whole slew of things you need to check on a used bike to ensure it is safe for the road, stuff that the average buyer would never think to check. If'n you don't have someone you can trust to check things like head bearings and axle bearings, drop me a line, I'm always lookin' for a reason to ride. Let me know if it has a center stand first though, might need my service stand.0 -
I had a fine/smaller (87?)honda rebel once upon a time. I would
ve been ideal for someone that size. Light and handled like a dream, and was perfect for shorter rides. Can't tell you all the specifics, but with a little research you could probably find a newer something along the same lines.0 -
She's shopping online and wants to go to Wichita to hit the stores. I believe she wants something along the lines of the 250s, but definitely wants it under 750. She needs to sit on some bikes first. She did pretty well on my scooter that has a thirty inch seat, but she can slide off the seat for a stop. 0 -
Stop over by Brook's Yamaha there in Manhattan and have her try out a VStar 650, either the Custom or Classic. They might even have a used one they would let her take for a test ride. Mike runs a good place there, and the service department is first rate. Matter of fact, IIRC, they had a small used cruiser that was either a Suzy or a Kwacker with a fair price on it settin' out front. Just a little scuffed here and there but definitely one that would be good for a beginner. 0 -
She needs enough power to deal with traffic. A four stroke 250 ain't gonna do it. The 650 Savage by Susuki has a very low center of gravity thus is easy to control and stable on the road. It has one big cylinder so is child's play to keep running good. It has a belt drive so even being a single it is pretty smooth. If and when she drops it, it is light enough for her to get upright again. In short it is the best beginner to intermediate bike made. Seat height is very low too. 0 -

Don't buy one in Wichita, you can do better just about any where else. Mid America powersports will have just about every model of Japanese bike to look at.0
