Is Christmas Unconstitutional ?
Well I was listening to a talk radio program and it would seem that a certain religious group says it (as well as Good Friday and Easter) is... And Folks if this group get their way and Christmas falls on a weekday your kids will get up on ho ho day not to open presents and be with the family but to eat a quick breakfast and get on the bus and spend the day in school...

They already have to a large extent. In a very large percentage of the schools it is no longer called or recognized as "Christmas Holiday". It is now refered to as "Winter Break" or other similar terms. My wife is an elementary music teacher and can no longer teach songs that have ANY religious reference. The worst part is the non-religious groups pizz and moan about religious songs and some religious groups pizz and moan about the non-religious songs. Pretty soon the only thing they will be able to sing is "Wheels on the Bus".0 -
Heck I am not a Christian (or any religious thing else), but I want Christmas off too. I also decorate for halloween and I am not wicca either. Some holidays are simply American tradition. 0 -
Christmas isn't going to go away. Jillions of wholesalers and retailers aren't gonna let that happen.

tobefree.....IMO, your mistake was listening to a talk radio program. [:D][:D] They are all idiots with idiot opinions!! Or else, they would have a real job somewhere. Anyway, last year when I went to my granddaughters "Christmas" play, it turned out to be a "Winter Break" thing. No play at all. They just sang religious type songs from all countries of the world and were very careful to avoid traditional Christmas songs. Not one song from this country. Several songs from mexico were included, I might add. This pissed me off completely and I cornered the principal and told her so. Miss RUIZ couldn't understand, of course......[:(!][:(!]

I hate to see the Liberals destroying the school Christmas celebrations.
These were the high point of my school year, especially grade school, in the fifties and sixties. I loved decorating the tree at school, and the class singing "Silent Night" and the other Christmas songs.
Yet, being immersed in this traditional Christmas celebration for years did not turn me into a Christain.
Now, in the schools around here, they are not allowed to sing "Silent Night." It might offend a little Buddhist child.
What a bunch of crap. If the Buddhist family did not know that Christain celebrations were held in America, they should not have moved here from India.

Celebrating christmas was banned in this country at one time.
Records indicate the first Christmas the Puritans celebrated in the new world passed uneventfully. Some of the new settlers celebrated Christmas while others did not. But the events of the second Christmas were documented by the group's governor, William Bradford. Sickness had wiped out many of their group, and for the first time they were facing hostility by one of the Native American tribes in the area. Bradford recorded that on the morning of the 25th, he had called everyone out to work, but some men from the newly arrived ship "Fortune" told him it was against their conscience to work on Christmas. He responded he would spare them "until they were better informed." But when he returned at noon, he found them playing games in the street. His response, as noted in his writings was: "If they made the keeping of it matter of devotion, let them kepe their houses, but there should be no gameing or revelling in the streets."
That second Christmas was the first time the celebration was forbidden in Massachusetts, but the ban didn't make it into the law books until several years later. As the settlement grew and more English settled in the area, tensions grew between the Puritans and British. The more pressure the English king exerted on the colonists, the more they resisted. In 1659, the ban became official. The General Court banned the celebration of Christmas and other such holidays at the same time it banned gambling and other lawless behavior, grouping all such behaviors together. The court placed a fine of five shillings on anyone caught feasting or celebrating the holiday in another manner.
"The generality of Christmas-keepers observe that festival after such a manner as is highly dishonourable to the name of Christ. How few are there comparatively that spend those holidays (as they are called) after an holy manner. But they are consumed in Compotations, in Interludes, in playing at Cards, in Revellings, in excess of Wine, in mad Mirth ..."

The ban was revoked in 1681 by an English-appointed governor Sir Edmund Andros, who also revoked a Puritan ban against festivities on Saturday night. But even after the ban was lifted, the majority of colonists still abstained from celebrations. Samuel Sewell, whose diary of life in Massachusetts Bay Colony was later published, made a habit of watching the holiday - specifically how it was observed each year. "Carts came to town and Shops open as is usual. Some, somehow, observe the day; but are vexed, I believe, that the Body of the People profane it, - and, blessed be God! no Authority yet to compell them to keep it," Sewell wrote in 1685.0 -

I am Christian, Lutheran specifically. I also believe a person has the RIGHT to belong to a religion or not.
My brother is a hardcore Baptist Pastor and he thinks everyone should be Baptist or they are doomed and do not deserve to take advantage of life in the US. He gets pretty mad when I tell him he is un-American and is living in the wrong country with those views. What a moron. I am convinced Baptist (at least his cult/sect) is not even a real religion-kind of like Wicca or some other made up fringe underworld crap.0 -

We should have Christmas off. And since we do, we should have ALL religious holidays off. Eid, Kwanzaa (even a made up holiday counts!), Hannukah, etc.
Whats good for one is good for all, right? Just because it isn't YOUR religion doesn't make it less important to someone else.

The much-discussed Belmont smoking ban received its final approval last night after a quick public hearing and discussion, City Clerk Terri Cook said last night.
The Belmont City Council approved the ordinance 3-2, with councilmen Bill Dickenson and Warren Lieberman in opposition. The law, which prohibits smoking in almost all public establishments, will go into effect in 30 days. Property owners will have 14 months to enforce the law via lease agreements.
The city made international news last year when the council began talking about an all-out ban of smoking within its borders. After months of discussion, the council settled on what will become one of the nation's strictest smoking laws.
Smoking will be prohibited in all individual apartments, condominiums and townhouses and their patios or yards which share common floors or ceilings with at least one other such unit. City law already prohibits smoking in common areas of multi-use buildings such as apartments. The law makes no distinction between leased and owned units.
The ordinance will ban smoking in all workplaces, except in sole-proprietorship smoke shops. It will also ban smoking in all outdoor work places like outdoor cafes and restaurant patios.
Smoking will be also be prohibited 20 feet from any non-smoking areas.
Property owners would be required to insert no-smoking terms in their residential leases and those lease provisions would go into effect 14 months after adoption of the ordinance.
The council ultimately decided to allow smoking on all streets and sidewalks, unless being used as outdoor workplaces, or at city-sponsored events. Smoking will be allowed in apartments, condominiums and townhouses and their yards where they do not share any common floors or ceilings with any other units. Smoking will also be allowed in single-family homes, in owner-designated outdoor smoking areas, any city-designated smoking area and in cars.

THERE IS NO SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE! That is a misapplied decision in a messed up SCOTUS ruling. Read the Constitution; nowhere is the word SEPERATION or any other word indicating SEPERATION used.
The USA is a Christian nation, founded on Christian-Judea based laws INCLUSIVE and tolerant of all.
Any other religion is welcome. We just ain't changing to make them feel better. If they don't like it; GET THE HELL OUT.
As Dr. Laura Schlesinger says; as a Jew she is grateful for America and its Christian heritage of welcoming Jews and others into America with open arms.
Christmas celebrates the birth of a human being. The belief system of some make him a Living God. Others can just appreciate the documented life of a good guy that espoused the principals this nation was founded upon. They are not forced to accept him as a living God.0 -
