postal matches
I didn't want to hijack the military thread, so how about a postal match for handguns? Id like to do 50 (or 25?) yard rimfire. Id be in for centerfire too. Any other ideas?

Does anyone know if there are any postal matches being run any more for just plain old bullseye pistol and position rimfire rifle? I've done some searching but can't seem to come up with anything like I used to shoot when I was a kid. 0 -
do both 0 -
We just need a target and a few people to sign up.
Ive got the guns to win this. Now if I only had a shooter [:p]0 -
Rusty - I would be in for a 50 or 100 yard pistol match. One centerfire and one rimfire.
Here is a good target http://www.remington.com/pdfs/target1.pdf
Or we could use the one that tsavo posted.0 -
scoped or iron site? 10 shots each? Loko[8D] 0 -
Freehand, or rest..? 0 -
how about we do 2 targets, at 50 yards, 10 shots each of rimfire and centerfire. I'm fine with HandgunHTR52's target. Now the next decisions, scoped/iron and standing/benchrest etc. Or we could even add a third target for scoped? I don't want it to get too complicated [:D] Anyone interested feel free to chime in. Any idea what guns you'll be using? 0 -

I'm game for two at 50..standing...10 shots ea...iron sites..[if enough people want we could do scoped also for 3 targets],as far as guns..smith wesson md 327 357mag and probably the S&W 617 22lr as far as scoped..617 with something on it [:D] ,Loko [8D] we should try to end it on the 23rd that way people who go to a range would have time...and thats a good target posted[;)]0 -
I like two targets (one centerfire, and one rimfire) at 50 yards, standing, with iron sights. Plus, one target at 100 (or 50) yards, scoped, standing.
I will be using a T/C Contender in .22 Hornet for the centerfire, and a S&W 22A for the rimfire. If we go scoped, I will use another T/C barrel on my Contender (also .22 Hornet). BTW, both Hornet barrels are 10".
I can post the target with scoring on it too.0 -
50yrds, standing, iron sights 10 shots. Better count me out.[V] 0 -
Here is what I came up with for scoring. Let me know if I need to change it. Thanks.

If you use the link above (Remington) just hit the print button and it will print out on an 8X10 just fine. I have been using their free targets for a while now. They have a few of them on their site.0 -

I just got to the point where I can get all rounds in the black at 25yrds, with a bench rest. Tried standing a few times at 25yrds, lets just say it was not pretty.[V] Let alone50yrd. I am still building my skill level with a pistol. Now if we were talking long gun or 50ft, I'm in.[;)]I'm going to the range again Wed. so I will give it a try and see what happens.
Thanks HandgunHTR52 for the push.0 -

We could always start another one for the accuracy-challenged. Being as how I'm new, could someone explain how a postal match works?0 -

Print the target, take it to the range, shoot at it using the method/firearm listed on the thread, and then take a picture of the target and post it. That's it!0 -
linthicum - There are a couple of keys to good handgun shooting.
The first is don't grip the gun too hard. A lot of people grip a pistol like they are trying to squeeze the life out of it. Nice gentle grip using the push-pull (push with your strong hand and pull with your off-hand) method works every time.
The second is not yanking the trigger back. Pull it like you pull a rifle trigger. Nice and steady, let the gun surprise you. That will help to get rid of the recoil anticipation (another common problem) too.
If your groups tend to be low, it could be recoil anticipation. Try shooting a .22 for a while (if you can). It will help you to get over the whole recoil thing.
The last is sight picture. Don't worry about the target, it isn't moving! The front sight should be your focus. If you really concentrate on the sights, it will help with recoil anticipation as well. You are so busy worrying about the sights that you forget about the gun firing!
Just some tips.[;)]0 -

Thanks HandgunHTR52
That is the first time I heard of the Push/Pull method, I will try that. I now about the sight and trigger tech. and have been practicing those. I do have a SW22s that my son and I shot. And I do pretty good with that. The one I am having the problems with standing, Is my Kimber Custom II Target. But it should come around with practice.
Thanks for the TIPS[8D]
I printed the target Wed. I will see if I can put some holes in it.[:)]0 -
hey if anyone is up to it ill do a 50' match too. no reason we cant do it all, just another reason to be at the range! 0 -

I am good with that. How about a 10 yard (or 50') target with your carry gun, standing of course?0 -

Were scans posted of the actual targets in the last postal match? Good idea, I just figured the targets were all mailed to someone to judge.0 -

I think that was the original intent, but why pay $.41 to send it to someone, when you can just post a pic or scan of it for free? It's just for fun anyway, so I don't think that any one will photoshop a target just to win.0 -
if anyone doesnt have access to digital camera/scanner, you can mail to me. lets get the final details worked out and well get this underway 0 -

It's your gig, I am good with whatever you decide. I will be going to the range on Tuesday or Wednesday.0 -
so have we agreed on offhand for the event? 0 -
Yeah I think so.
1. 50 yards, centerfire, standing, open sights.
2. 50 yards, rimfire, standing, open sights.
3. 50 yards, rimfire or centerfire, standing, scoped.
4. 50 feet, carry gun, standing.
My input. But, like I said before, I am good with whatever.0 -
sounds good - 4 targets, or just the ones you want. 0 -
+1 sounds good, Loko 0 -
im in
