Okay, if i understand it correctly, i need to find a class III dealer (done), pick out my gun, pay a tax stamp, and wait for 6 months to get my gun. this sounds a little too easy. what would be my chances of actually being able to purchase a full auto rifle, and what would be a starting price for something like an ar carbine?

What requirements does it take to get a class 3? In GA specifically. Just curious. Do I have to be LE? Military? am FFL Dealer?

What if I am an antique collector?

I'm interested in obtaing a class III license. Can anyone direct me to a web.site which may be helpful? Everyone I ask tells me to go the ATF and get the forms. There has to be some do's and don'ts of filling out what I'm sure is going to be a moutain of paper w/ a proctologist on stand by. Help!

Checked into it.....don't bother unless you want to pay a small fortune for a gun that you won't even see for a very long time.

There are a few on the auction side. Look under the Class III section. There are a couple of other websites that have a lot of class III on them as well. They are all a bit pricey though.

Sorry I'm looking to obtain a license to own a class III firearm such as a Ruger MK III with integral suppressor for example.

Any website or phone number to call and get info or application for such a license.

    Thanks

As others have said - just check the GB site. Expensive & not too practical. Where are you going to shoot it? You can't take it out of state without fed approval. That aside, they have been a good investment over the last 5 years.

Oklahoma.........and from what I have read I can take it into other states as long as they allow them and you have the paperwork with it. I could be miss informed

Suppressors are reasonable price and less paperwork then the rest of the NFA firearms. The info you have got so far pretty well covers the machinegun world. MG are the ONLY NFA items you can no longer make new so the price is crazy.

Read this once, then again, then one more time http://www.atf.gov/pub/fire-explo_pub/nfa.htm also know your state laws.

The best way to get your first NFA item is through a local dealer since you will need them anyhow to do the transfer. I am not sure if this list is up to date but it may help http://www.subguns.com/c2c3/ . If you have more questions after that please let me know and I will do what I can to help.

OK 5 that eliminated the where to shoot situation. You still will pay $200 over the cost of the item to possess it. The investment potential is limited now.

Trust me the $200 is very well worth it. I have a Gemtech Outback 2 now (.22cal) and I use it a lot and it is great fun. I also have a AR rifle on order that if it ever shows up I am getting a suppressed 9mm upper for. I had wanted a .223 can for a while but got to shoot some a while back and was not that impressed compared to pistol (cheep subsonic ammo) cans. I know you can get/make subsonic ammo for the larger rifles but it is not the same. If I lived in a SBS friendly state I would have at least one more can but hanging off a 16" BBL would just look silly.

That would be considered an NFA weapon, and the supressor is subject to a one time $200.00 tax stamp. That all depends on what state you live in also. Some states do not allow any classIII or NFA weapons. All transferrable classIII machineguns are expensive to say the least. The other side is a classIII dealer who can buy dealer samples for a fraction of the cost from a class II manufacturer. The dealer samples are usually conversions. Bot supressors, short barreled rifles, and short barreled shotguns are all NFA, most likely as AOW(any other weapon).

There is no license. Each class 3 item requires a little paperwork, a 2-3 month wait and a $200 one time tax stamp. Not hard, just a little time consuming. MD is easy. My suppressor too right at 3 months.

Things have changed a bit in the last year since the ATF moved. It seems like it now takes about 3-5 weeks [:D] to get your Form 4 back. That is a good change for once. My C&R took 11 days to get to my house from the time they cashed my check (about a week after I sent it) last spring.

I can also vouch for ATF's changes and restructuring which have resulted in much shorter processing times for NFA transfers.

If you're a first timer, I cannot recommend a Revocable Living Trust enough. No prints, No CLEO sign-off and if you have an "A/B" Trust, you AND your wife can both possess the registered device without grief if you're checked out.

(Not that any local cops even have a CLUE what they're looking for. In a great story I tell my customers, I was "checked out" by some Border Patrol agents, and I usually LOVE Border Patrol agents, but these two thought they were part time ATF I guess. They asked me for my "papers" and I asked them if they were ATF. They replied "No", so I asked them if they'd know the names of the forms they'd like to see, and if they'd tell me the names of those forms, I'd be happy to fetch them from the car. Well, they were very embarassed because they didn't have a clue what they were supposed to look at anyway)

If you have an LLC or Corp. the transfer to a business entity is much the same, No prints, No Pictures, No CLEO. AND, everyone who is a member of said LLC or Corp, can legally possess the item.

There are tax issues and assets in the Corp or Trusts name have to be accounted for on your taxes, but the wait times are MUCH less, in addition to the other benefits already mentioned. There are a few extra things which must be done whenever you are transferring an item to an entity, rather than an individual, but they are very simple and taken on balance, it's THE way to go.

Any questions, call me at 877 AZEXGUN and I'll walk you through it. OK might have requirements to register a Revocable Living Trust. AZ does not.

ETA: Individual Transfers are taking about 12 weeks right now and my examiner loves me. Trust/Corp transfers are often LESS than 3 weeks, mailbox to mailbox.

ive been looking into this, and a trust is the way to go if legal in your state. finally, an (almost) affordable way to own nfa items
